Roger Readily's heirloom chest

In order to finish someone else's quest, I need to cook a risquebisque, the recipe for which is in Roger Readily's heirloom chest. Problem is, I've maxed out Roger's friendship and finished his personal quest, and yet he hasn't given me the three-digit code. Does anyone know how this is supposed to trigger?

I DID one time accidentally give a gift to someone that was maxed out, and he gave me a single digit to his family chest. I have not been able to get him to give me any more digits though. Not sure if this is a way to do the quest, but I've tried gifting Roger his favorite things and no joy so far.

Are you more likely to get chest lock numbers if you gift their favorite things, or items with the gossip trait?

I don't fully understand the function yet either but it seems your friendship points CAN still increase, even if you have the bar maxed out, you just can't see a visual change.

For example, I always gave my spouse their favorite gift regardless of the bar (because they still share gossip/info) and that one time I accidentally gifted the wrong thing and got -20FP; I heard the sound of points being deducted but the bar wasn't lowered. So, I guess this means that the FP points accumulate past the maximum of the bar.

And, in my experience, I only receive the digits to heirloom chests if I keep giving the villager a gift a day AFTER the bar has already been maxed out. So I'm assuming, that it takes an additional (potentially randomized) amount of FP after maxing out the bar, before the "you've been good to me, here's a digit" text triggers. I don't know if the gossip trait enhances the likeness of the text triggering sooner or if gifting their favorite items helps :o

Basically, it seems all you can really do is continuously give gifts to Roger (but only one per day) until he gives you all the digits.

Ouch. That could take a while! Oh well, it's not a super-important quest, but I would love more recipes :)

I get that same noise with the FP bar with my husband, but I assumed it was because I have the Fae Artifact that makes it so your spouse will never "become unhappy or leave you". So it is always maxed out

I have had a lot of extra points accrue sometimes because they are awarded to me for doing a person's quest, but I only got the quest because it was maxed out, so I think that just works oddly,

It's completely random. Just keep giving gifts and he should eventually give you the numbers. The more npc's per household, the faster you can get them since you can give each a gift each day. But in this case, yeah..

He gave me a number after having full hearts. Only one so far, so this seems like one that's going to take a while.

There's a random chance after you give a npc a gift that they'll give you a digit to their heirloom chest. I'm not sure if you have to have your friendship maxed out to start receiving them. It doesn't have to be a loved item, so once their friendship is maxed you can give them whatever trash you have the most of - so long as it isn't something they dislike.

I think you can probably get all of the digits to rogers chest within 2 weeks if you gift him everyday. You might even be able to save scum the code after receiving 1 or 2 of the digits - if you let the game autosave right next to the chest before entering it. I'm pretty sure the code resets if you guess wrong so I wouldn't recommend trying that without save scumming.

It's completely random, once you have full hearts with the person. You have to just pray to RNGesus each day. Alternatively, you can save scum it. Go stand by him at 5am. When it ticks over to 6am the game will auto save. Give him a gift. If he gives you a number, "Yay!", if not, quit to title and reload. Once he gives you a number, go on your merry way. Repeat at 5am.

There's a 20% chance for them to give you a code number if you give them a gift (first of the day only) when they have full hearts. This is increased by 5% for each level of the Trust trait they have
