Personally I'd load a savegame before the first weather forecast, it will be another, less harmful storm afterwards. Or start a new game where I can already use my experience I didn't have until then, there's not much lost after 5 days.
When you've build your base, you can do other things inside your base at night and during storms. When you run an antenna, you even get a weather forecast, which kind of storm will follow. So this is quite an important structure to know how to prepare.
There is autosave everytime you wake up after sleeping ... and I advice you to keep 1-2 saves which are a few days old, so you have a backup just in case.
Agreed. BEST "safety tip" ever. Saves are your friend. Save often and rotate the saves so you have a fall-back. Especially before a "major" change and turns to an "oops, lets not do that again" moment.
I'm going to wait a few days to see if the devs do something to repair this goofy storm occurance and if that doesn't fix it I'll call it done until the game hits 1.0. It's just too frustrating at this point. I feel like I'd have more fun playing Russian Roulette Simulator.
Did you keep all old savegames?
I've got one savegame I save anytime I like to save ...
I've got one save I save sporadically like when in the middle of a long journey as a near time fall back.
I've got one save I save after doing major building on my base I want to have a fall back for.
Only three manual saves which get overwritten all the time.
Be careful what you promise, you could be demanded to hold it, even if it may be unprofessional.
I was talking about the old ones, where you told you needed 15 minutes to delete them ... two saves are absolutly fine, if you have a useful system in using them.
Getting the Bulls Eye achievement while in the starting Pod, being thrown from the pod, and then being killed by another Meteor is too much too fast. Reading other posts the game is already too easy so I have no suggestions for you to improve the game. Earlier attempts to play were acceptable to a point; after building my first base it just became repetitious. This time, I can't find the necessary boards to build my first building or more than one transformer despite having searched 5 nearby bases. It's just not fun at this point. I don't expect to be able to build everything at the start, but it would be nice to be able to build one base building.
If your game is up to date, it's version 0.199.1. The version number is shown on the top of the main menu and ingame. If not, you can force steam to update your files by validating the files in the steam properties of each game.
You complain about meteor storm on day 5 ... I told you, meteor storms are random and rare ... bad luck can happen ... it's up to you, if you give up or keep on going just because of bad luck.
Regarding lack of finding items, you know you can set items to be outlined so you can find them easier? After visiting five abadoned bases you should already be able to beginn building your base. You where grinding grindable equipment inside the base too? Later you can grind the equipment outside too, after you upgraded your grinder.
There is a 3d printer in your surviving pod too, which you can use to print needed items yourself after mining rocks.
Back to visiting five abadoned bases, you should have been able to find five tablets to unlock advanced technolgies to be able to research them with your science points.
I don't know, how experienced you are, maybe you know these informations already? If not, they shall help you.
edit: added hopefully useful informations for new players above
As can be seen from the attached screen shot, the game is up to date. This is from within the pod prior to getting hit by the meteor. Please note the time, I'd been in the pod all night sleeping, when I woke there was the storm warning message from 3am. In the screen shot it's after noon, so I've spent all morning in the pod doing nothing waiting for all the weather events to end.
You call it bad luck, I call it bad game design. Potato, potatoh. And yes, items are highlighting when (if) I find them. They have to be there to be found, so far I have one big board and two small boards - one of which went into the ATV at the closest base. That's after searching the closest 5 or 6 bases.
edit: Posted in wrong thread, moved to this one.
edit 2: Any idea why the 3D printer won't print circuit boards even though the required materials are in the printer inventory?
Then start fresh again ...
I also try to beat a record of "self sufficiency" for myself. So far at 17 Sols. Kind of a challenge for myself. ( especially with Madman sandbox )
As far as finding the mats to get things built and accomplished, that is part of the challenge. Your jackhammer is your friend when starting out. You'll need to grind EVERYTING.
One issue I found is this. To get anything done when you first land ( sandbox or campaign ) ... you don't have enough time ...as the "game clock" is really fast.
Not a fan of mods ... but this one will slow it down, and help in progression and builds.
Could also make the game more enjoyable. Just my opinion though.
https://www.nexusmods.com/occupymars/mods/14 So far with 0.199 .. have seen no issues in default.
I'm not sure, if you talk about the same highlighting as I do ... as you talk about if you found them.
I'm talking about the highlightning of items in your close area, even if they are hidden and you're not pointing at them.
E.g., here you can easily find a small circuit board, even if it's hidden from the view.
