Meteor shower too rough
Day 40 and I get my first metor shower warning and I think: cool this is new!

One fireball lands smack in the middle of my solar farm. Took out 20 medium solar panels and both battery banks. A second took out my green house. There's 30 something hours of real life effort gone.

Kinda looked cool at least - broken bits of solar panel rained from the sky.

I searched for a solution and the FAQ advice was to run and hide and then repair the damage - but there's nothing to repair its all trash to be grinded down.

I reloaded and tried again and then a few reloads after that and eventually got one where nothing was hit.

I don't like save scumming but realistically I wasn't going to have my base smashed to nothing. Now I dreading having to do that each time it fires.

I think it needs to be toned down so maybe you have to do some repairs but not a wipe out.

Otherwise reloading is the only option.

reload a save before. its different each load. theres only one way to be save. the defense system :)

You can build defense system - its also a matter of planning the base carefully.

We'll discuss level of damage and making defence system easier.

I think I've been lucky, I'm on day 74 and only ever had one meteorite destroy 2 wells.

Thank you!

I did see there was some defence in the research tree but it was a way off down the tree

I liked dust storm where there were consequences and you had to work fast to get the solar pannels cleaned and the power back on before my plants died. It shaped gameplay and added atmosphere.

But the meteor impact was pretty cool and added atmosphere but the consequences too terrible, I couldn't face rebuilding all that

Thanks for considering

I had this exact thing happen during the beta, a meteor hit smack in the middle of my solar/water/O2 farm.

Yeah, I did lose about 40+ hours of work, and I think I ended up dying in the play through.

Now I setup a secondary/tertiary base (with the survival capsule) as a backup.

This game can be rough, even the Prologue was rough and unforgiving.

Since storms seem to focus on the players position, I kind of wonder if you goto a backup spot with spare capsule if the meteor will hit that area and leave main base alone. I am on day 40 or so and that tech is not avail to me yet

thats nice an all if you can find med circuit boards. I had just enough boards to make the beginnings of a base but now no way to make enough defense to bother with. plus no seeds either

Build your base some distance (200 - 300 meters away) from your original Emergency Pod.
When a Meteor Shower or sand storm is forecast ... go and close your self in the Pod .... apparently the storm's target the player (so I have read in the forum). The POD is indestructible, so you are safe and your base Should not get damaged.

I agree these are way too rough. I went to sleep before any warning of a meteor shower and when I woke there were already meteors hitting my base. I had already built 2 meteor defence system with 10 rockets but it clearly wasn't enough. My base is trashed and because the meteor shower came at night when I was sleeping, reloading is just reloading with the meteor shower in full swing trashing my base.

Just had a meteor shower wipe out my entire electric grid. That in itself is bad but something that needs to be expected (especially when I put all my electric stuff bunched together), but the problem is that the various structures that got smashed have to be scrapped, some (upgrades for battery and such) can't be grinded (they seem to have no collision, and yes I tried reloading) but the worst part is that they don't give back the circuit board when you grind them.

That's the point where I realised my second mistake, I put my spare circuit boards in a refrigerator inside the base. But... Since the base is now unpowered I can't get into them, and a single solar doesn't give enough power to power the base. Since I have no circuit boards I can't make transformers to combine more solar plants so basicly my only option is to either go faaar away to find a base and hope it has a circuit board, reload a former save or grind the base down and hope my stuff will spit out of the containers.. Neither of these is very tempting and I'll just put the game away for now and maybe come back to it when it's a bit more polished.

ahh the good'ol "I'll put all my eggs in one basket, how could that possibly come back to bite me" tactic.

I had a similar issue to you, the meteors took out my entire solar farm, batteries and wells. The worst part wasn't having to rebuild everything, but that it was early game and i had no spare small circuit boards. So it literally took hours to regain what i'd lost. And this was playing on the easiest level. I would expect some damage, but not total disaster. I enjoy a challenge and the survival aspect, but loosing hours of work just wasn't fun. Thankfully i have learned to save regularly now to avoid these.

I had read somewhere that the HQ is a trigger for the meteor shower event. I've played 80 sols without meteors. I build an HQ and immediately it's hit. I've returned to an old save without an HQ. The HQ is also a pointless building at the moment. Otherwise, I would try to drive away from my base and then hide in a cave. All storm events in the game follow the player and thus so do meteors. It saves your base that way.
Old Scaley May 28, 2023 @ 3:14am
I was getting meteor showers before building an HQ so doubt it's related.

Meteor showers are just another random event.
otto May 28, 2023 @ 4:16am
when the meteor-message pops up, i just hopp into my rover and drive 500m+ and farm some rocks out there. As long as the shower will allways hit the playerposition its far away from my base. Its a cheat/exploit i know but i think the Devs will come up with a overhaul of the defencesystem (rocketassembly and a better/effective defencesystem, or maybe a wider spread of the meteors so not your whole base is scrap afterwards)
