it used to be used to taking stuff which is ready, but in the meantime the mechanics has been changed and this animations hasnt been removed since then
They started doing something cool for more interactive crafting, etc. experiences and then got stupid and minecrafted the f out of it.
It is inconsistent. Some stations make you take it out (seed extractor...) while others make you go into an inventory screen, which seems more common. Agree that the more interactive they are, the better, but not sure I always believe pulling 100 steel pipes out of a drawer is all that realistic.

In the end the 3d printer is probably the most unrealistic crafter in almost any game. I mean why does it feel like I can print 100 steel pipes in about the same time I could print a single steel pipe. I understand some speed in batch crafting, but right now it's pretty extreme.

It could be set up that taking 100 steel pipes out of a drawer is realistic, just make a bigger drawer. 3d printer prints it and drops it into a very large drawer. Of course another option would be to have the 3d printer in the survival pod only be able to print out 5 items before being empty and allow the larger 3d printer in the base or large grinder to print out larger batches.

I was thinking that it would be better if all the devices sent anything larger to a central building where it put the items in the appropriate bins to take them out, all automated, but that would be a huge change in mechanics, and in the end, you'll still be stuffing everything into a tiny backpack on your back, which overall I think is a bigger stretch than the 3D printer. Nothing has weight here, but again, such a huge mechanic changer that it just wouldn't be doable in this kind of game where you survive solo. No one wants a hundred trips to the storage bin to carry one or two pipes back to the construction site, though it could introduce a forklift as another vehicle. Maybe OM 2.0.
