Greenhouse fields consume soil now?
Quick question:
I noticed that the amount of soil in a field goes down if plants are harvested. It'S maybe the same behavior in the domes now?
Is this an intended change (that i missed in the patch notes) or do i something wrong?

I'm not thrilled about it either, but according to the developer's response, that's how it was intended (((

It makes sense though, no matter how much dirt you try to shake off when pulling plants there's always some loss.

but not 100% loss...

Basically, I'm a fan of realism in games, but in this case, I'm completely against it. From the start, you only need to grow potatoes to survive. They grow the fastest, are easy to portion, and make all other food sources more or less pointless.
If you now end up consuming fertilizer for this already useless food, there's even less reason to bother growing it.
I wish the developers would introduce buffs, like certain food combinations giving XP bonuses. That way, the different seeds would finally have a purpose.
But by the time you can grow these combinations, you don’t even need the buffs anymore... so it’s probably going to stay the same.

Ah - thanks - good to know. As a minimum, i would tag this new feature with "needs some balancing" then...
Oh well, back to potatoes and beetroot i guess...

potatoes only give 24% to hunger I believe. with combos can get that up to 70% iirc. Also, trees don't go away when you pick them, so having apple trees in a dome creates o2 while also providing food.
I don't mind the dirt going away. Its 1 unit of dirt for each plant. Maybe in domes it will be alot more (bigger plants there), but we will see.

That’s not the point. High nutritional value is more of a hindrance rather than helpful. Imagine you want to sleep... you get the message: 'Not enough food, blah blah.' You check the indicator... 40%. If you now use your 70% MRE, you’ve wasted 10%, or you sleep for a shorter period. That won’t happen with potatoes. Of course, you can make the MREs if you want to try everything out. It just doesn't make sense from a survival perspective.

Then grow just potatoes and don't put things in fields, problem solved. The old way the only 'cost' to growing food was water. Now, its water and soil. Fertilizer has the ability to become endless. There is no actual game reason to have more than one food type outside of roleplaying.

Anyone mess with the dome and apple trees?
