I just ran an organic/botany pendrive through the system. Took forever to decode, but didn't see anything anywhere change. Don't think anything popped up on the screen either. It just finished and that was it.

No need to stay while it decoding - just press Esc and move out of it.
It decodes all pendrives in storage and it ticks, very slow/low - u will see exp icon flashing in HUD.
Btw - u can decode botania in mechanical system and u will get mech exp, buti suspect exp will be lover or slower, not sure.

you can decode pendrive in different workbench but it gices you less XP then. AFAIK, every pendrive gives you specific amount of XP, nor percentage but i'll check.

From what I got to learn, they give 10 exp points each.

I've been tracking my experience points in the Tech Tree every time I decode a pendrive and I have yet to receive ANY experience points at all over five different pen drives. For each category in the Tech Tree, you can see how much accumulated experience you have and how many points you need to receive the next experience point. The number for accumulated experience NEVER changes when I decode a pendrive. It goes up steadily though, when I complete certain related tasks (like scavenging parts from a deserted base). I've stopped collecting them because I don't see any improvement in experience points by any objective measure. As far as I can tell, it's a waste of time.

I would continue to collect. If something is broken and they fix it, you can then go and decode all the drives to gain whatever the advantage is. I'm not decoding them any longer as I don't see a benefit, just storing them away for a rainy day!!!

Dev's need to check this. I didn't see any change after decoding 2 mechanical and 1 botany. Checked before decoding and after and there was no change indicated.

Edit: After exiting game and coming back, when I went back into the console, it had a reading showing me 20 for mechanical and 10 for botany and it applied it. Must have been bugged when I originally checked it. Looks to be working now.

I'll check it. We've been testing it after it was implemented, maybe something broke that features.

It be nice to use a pen drive at the basic workstation when you first start. Granted is shouldn't give the full 10 points for the type, but you do acquire a mess of pen drives way before your ability to unlock the science stations.

I understand that this game is in early access, but this USB flash drive/tablet system kind of breaks the immersion of the game. The tablets, when giving access to a specific project, should have something more than just a little message... they could have a development diary, or some kind of construction schematic, or a picture of a prototype. The USB flash drives, on the other hand, together could give access to a project like a tablet in addition to XP. - or perhaps a minigame to earn more xp than just decoding. Simply using a tool, generating energy or driving a vehicle gives access to new technologies seems too simple... or maybe it would only gives access to improved use or technologies related to what you are doing. Better drill when drilling, better torch when building, more stable driving when travelling aournd, etc.
