Circuit boards
Noob here, I ran out of small circuit boards and need more for my transformer so I can get my work bench powered. I seemed unable to 3d print more, and after a quick google it seems circuit boards can only be obtained from abandoned bases.

Is there any way I can print or make more circuit boards? This is kind of a dealbreaker and I might stop playing if I need to search far for abandoned bases...

I do like that idea of stripping one broken board for parts to fix others, particularly as a hard mode option. And if you make a mistake on soldering it should destroy the component rather than the whole board. However it feels like more dev work than is worthwhile against all the other demands for their time.
there are several ideas hot to rework circuit boards&workbench mechanics, but it will be decided (considering players feedback) after we fix workbench. We need general redesign of that feature, but workbench is bugged.

The other problem is that after 15-20 days in game you have so many circuit boards that you dont know what to do with them.

Unless you're playing on Sandbox in Easy mode, you're going to need to search more Abandoned Bases anyway to get Abandoned Tablets for blueprints, to scrap things to level up your Materials tech tree, and find more Seed Magazines for a better variety of plants.

Loot from your first couple of Abandoned Bases - within sight of the lander capsule - should provide more than enough to get you off the ground. All you need is one battery, one transformer, maybe two. If you're out of inputs on your transformer it's better to wait a bit, level up the Electricity tech tree and get a Transformer Upgrade to add more inputs and outputs to a transformer without consuming an additional circuit board. Similar story for the Battery and Battery Upgrades units.

I would love a mode of the game where there is almost no abandoned bases (like 15km - 40km apart)
but you could print circuit boards (even if you had to add the chips manually like you do to repair them

So abandoned bases are still needed to unlock tech, but the base were rarer (and each had more loot)

But for now, bases are every few kms, so just pick a direction, fix the bike and go for it. (if you have used all the circuit boards, you can pull them out and swap them around until you have a few spare)

Every device that uses circuit boards has a panel when you can open and take the board out to swap around devices until you go loot more

For now, you can't print circuit boards on your own.

Thanks for clearing that up, will this change in the future?

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to allow the printing of a "blank" Small, Medium, or Large circuit board for very little material cost - effectively the same as a 100% damaged board with no components on it.

I don't think it's necessary to address the "free" supply of components in the Workbench. The amount of time it will take to assemble the board by hand - and the risk of making a mistake and scrapping a board - will more than compensate for any gameplay balance concerns. Yet it will still open a pathway to acquire the exact circuit board you need without roaming, the primary path of collecting boards as loot is still there, and everyone can stop complaining.

I can make new circuit boards at the workbench?

No, but you can fix the damaged one.

I would love to be able to create circuit boards. I'm in need of small ones to make more pumps and I've already ripped apart all the bases within a 15 km radius or so. I think I remember hearing something about adding upgrade kits to the pump stations so we could do more than three inputs into them. That would work too after some redesign of one of my water/oxygen/methane collection sites.

On another note, what are the plans for the methane we are gathering?

hay all if there is a printer there that prints all why is it not printing boards ,it would make sense to put the tech tree in electrics when you get the work bench, cause otherwise its down to r an g

Since you have the parts to fix already you'd just have to add the motherboard you could make it where you can craft the parts needed including the motherboard and then you have to solder it together if you mess up it bricks and any parts that were attached to the mother board after 3 tries are destroyed and you'll have to craft more.

I recently discovered that you sometimes may get crap load of cicruitboards from supply drops; including small, medium and big ones. Tech tree pendrives and CO2 bottles too.
