Anyone else struggling to find silicon?
Just curiosity if I'm having horrible rng luck or if it really is as rare as it seems in my game. So far iron is far and away the most common followed by aluminium then silicon closely followed by calcium and uranium which are about tied. I spend days roaming around to find may 20-30 sililcon and I'm curious is it that hard to find for other people or am I just having horrible luck?

Silicon, iron, and aluminum are all over the place. I think some people aren't aware of how to use the jackhammer, based on some of the comments I've seen.

Ooo yes we do. But some of us get rocks with low amounts of silicon. In the beginning I only had the jackhammer. I used the scanner to find rocks with primary silicon because, as you know, with the jackhammer you only get the primary element of that rock. In my case, within 500 meters of the base only one every 20 rocks had silicon as primary. I was very happy that, when I got the crusher, that I was able to also mine the secondary elements which is also most of the time small amounts of silicon. < 900 per rock.

OP said it took them 2+ days to find 20-30 silicon. Someone else said it took days of them driving around looking for rocks on the ground to get about that much aluminum. That sounds like they're *only* picking up rocks on the ground.

That's a good point. Than I think these posts clearify everything for the OP.

Silicon is harder to find if you look in locations heavily concentrated with rock formations. Iron and Aluminum tend to be clustered together, but it is more common to find Silicon off completely by itself. If you see ore rocks all by themselves in the distance, there's a good chance that it is silicone.

i've used the Analyzer. to find - silicon rocks -

trying to mine them with the rover seemed a waste as they break apart to fast, so end up turning a lot into "small rocks". losing a lot in the transition.

end up - finding Silicon rocks - getting out using jackhammer to break them up into loadable chucks.. - then back into rover to load them. had to pop out once or twice to break more loadable chunks. - Still ended up breaking some bits down to "small rocks" - but ended up getting a LOT more over all.

two or 3 seemed to be enough to almost fill the rover - and dropping it off at the crusher netted a couple thousand.

I think its a combination of not really used the crusher and rover. I only just built one when I set off to find seeds and now I'm again building a base from scratch 15 kilometers south of my original base to restock food before continuing the seed hunt. As for the Rover I keep smashing the rocks to small ones and losing too much that way. If it doesn't matter what you use I think I'll break them up with the jackhammer as that way I can control them into ready to load rather than small chunks. I also need to look into building a crusher.

if I remember right.. IF you use the analyzer your returns on mining the ore are increased.
