Building an Antenna Network
Hi @ all,

I've placed and powered 3 large antennas within transceiver distance of each other with a clear line if sight in one line.

However, I can only control my base when I'm in range of the corresponding antenna. The same goes for remotely controlling the heavy rover. It only works within range of one antenna, but not two separate ones.

Is this just me?
How can I build and connect a network of antennas?

Are all antenna's within range of each other? I haven't tried it yet, but if it works like in space engineers, the signals must be able to reach the next antenna in line.

For example, if your putting up 2 antenna's that both have a range of say 3km, then those antenna's can be no more then 3km apart.

another example is if you have 2 different antennas, one has a range of 3km, and the other has 2km. If you put them 3 km apart, then the 3km can "talk to" the 2km antenna, but the 2km antenna will be too far away to "talk to" the 1st one, because its broadcast range is only 2km.

Again, this is based off of if they work like the antenna's in Space Engineers work, so take the above with a grain of salt.

I have nothing to add to the conversation, but wanted to say awesome name.

Yes, all antennas are within broadcast range.

Do you mean that each antenna is within the broadcast range of the subsequent antenna or are only the broadcast ranges overlapping? I find the range quite short and if I have to place an antenna within the broadcast range of the other one (which would make sense), then I need a lot of antennas to reach my base which is 13 km further away. I would prefer a satellite communication system where the antenna in an area can receive and send all signals in its range and can also forward them via satellite to another antenna located at another base.

I haven't messed with antennas yet, and was wondering......exactly what kind of "control" can you do with/to your base?

You can click on a transformer or pump and control them just as you can if standing in front of them. There is skills on the tree for long range remote control.... having just the antennas is not enough I think.

Hmmm......interesting.......have something new to build/play with tonight!!!!

Thank you, but I can't take credit for coming up with it, Its from an audible book series called expeditionary force. If you like military space sci-fi with a huge amount of humor in it, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I haven't played with antenna's yet in this game so I could be wrong on how this game handles them, but my guess is that each one needs to be within the broadcast range of each subsequent antenna. IF this game handles them the same as Space Engineers, then this video would better explain it then I can....

I can't believe how quickly this thread turned useless

I do not understand how the antenna network works in the game (I made lines of overlapping coverage from the base) the rover stops responding to the remote outside the antenna. At the base at the same time the drone is installed, and it does not show up on the remote. I think in the game at the moment only one antenna works, they do not create a network.

Having the edge of one antenna's coverage touch the edge of the next is not what's required "overlapping". The location of your second antenna must itself be inside the range of the first - and the first must be in range of the second too (you can't use a smaller antenna with a shorter range).

Possible to through up a screenshot for us?
Alrighty, I've figured it out.
Place every antenna within the broadcasting range of the previous one. That is, the antenna building must be placed in the circle that is displayed which represents the range on the map. Simply having overlapping antenna circles isn't enough.

Now, this doesn't account for obstructions such as mountain ranges. It may or may not be that landscape can block the transmission.

It's also important to "correctly" click on the building that is to be remote controlled. For example, if you click on one of a battery pack's extension, the entire battery pack's charge is displayed. If, however, you click on the battery pack control unit ( the first item which needs to be constructed) it also displays the option to access the unit's settings. This is indicated by the gear symbol in the lower right corner of the display which contains the information of how much the entire battery pack is charged.

And last but not least, my game looses functionality after about 2h of game play. Once this happens only a reload solves this problem. A restart of the game is not necessary.

Yay! Another reason to blow 10 minutes on a save/reload cycle.

I agree that there's still room for improvement. At the same time it's worth a toilet break, you can start a load in the washing machine, get a glass of water, walk the dog, etc...
