Will we be able to print circuit boards? or PCB's that we would have to assemble like when we repair?
Apologies in advance if this has already been answered, I searched the forums and didn't see anything that looked like it asked this specific question.

are there plans to be able to print circuit boards? Either complete units printed out by the 3D printer or potentially a specific printer for electronics? Or even the ability to print a PCB from a 3D printer and then have to assemble it on the work bench like when we repair damaged circuit boards?

personally I think printing a PCB, and then having to assemble all of the components from the workbench would probably be a bit more of a challenge and a bit funner to do, that way people aren't just spinning off like 200 circuit boards and having a massive excess I understand their kind of a rarity, and it's also a mechanic that forces people to get out and explore the world, however I do think having the ability to manufacture them even an ability at a slightly more difficult pace should be implemented.

thanks for all the hard work devs!

That's a good suggestion. The devs had said previously that the 3D printing of circuit boards is not going to be considered as from a real life perspective they'd be too complex for a 3D printer ( i think i'm remembering correctly )

But being able to print a PCB then make one on your workbench seems more realistic to me. Plus it could take a long time to make one so a good option if you're really desperate for a certain type of board. Will be interesting to hear what they think about it.

I'd settle for being able to repair them even when I do everything right it just seems to generate a board with a new set of faults. Fix the resistor and coil now the path and central board is faulty. However yes even as late game tech it would make a big difference in building things as rng for a vital component can handicap a base if you get unlucky.

That is what I am hoping for, select the board you want to make and the 3d printer gives you a box of parts and a board. Then you put them together at a workstation. It takes time and skill to fix a board and so it will take more time and more skill to put together a board from scratch.

This is what i was thinking too. The electronic components are already available in an endless supply in the workbench for repairs, so it's like you said, print the board type you want then spend a long and careful time building it. As we know with the repair process, you get three fails then have to start over. So something similar would work with building one i'd think.

We can already make Glass in the Printer. So why cant the Printer also make Fiberglass for the CB .... all you need to do is Print the size of Board that you need (small, medium, large) and then go to the workbench and start soldering. At least it gives you a choice... spend hours making a board .... or spend hours going to look for them.
