Right click on the map - Click name, enter name, then checkmark. Voila, text-map-marker! :)

I wonder how big the map actually is. I wonder what's the furthest anyone has travelled from their base? I heard someone say they did 24 km.

The farthest I've gone is 5k- but after that it seems to be recycled lands/bases. I even ran into a base that was built within a base etc. The map is huge though.

I've been about 5km so far, but I'm building my base up so I can mass produce food for a big run soon.
I'm wondering if it's the entire planet!

Cool! I used the Jetpack to go 12km out. It's maximum range seems to be 6km so i had to stop and build a refuelling station.

Right click and select track, you get a HUD way-point also, if you use Red, Green or Yellow marking.

White doesn't show up on the HUD, probably the not traced setting.

Have so far covered 30 km with the rover and built another large base in the north ( in the snow area ).
As long as we can not print more bottles it is a very tedious business. Find water, mini base for water, oxygen and energy build up the rover. Demolition of the minibase is fortunately fast and you get the full material back. I wish the rover was equipped with solar panels so that it could recharge itself.

I have an outpost 30km out, no sign of Mars ending.

As this linked community thread states, the map is procedurally generated.

Dev answer in thread:
map is procedurally generated. It has no borders. If you go forward, it wont end.

I wonder though is Mars a sphere or are we playing on a Flat Mars? The scale of the terrain, with the named features like Olympus Mons, Korolev, and Endeavour Crater so much closer together and smaller than on the real planet, is it possible one could circumnavigate the map in a few hundred kms?

That was my first thought, but apparently the devs have said it's a flat map that continuously generates, so in theory you could pass Olympus Mons more than once if it regenerates again.
