I'm drilling using the camera from inside the rover.
If they are grey rocks, I get out of the rover and drill carefully by hand. Just enough to break them up for loading.
Not sure how much XP rovers drill gives, but once I got a new tecnology point just when emptying the tipper at the small rock crusher. So this looks to give XP too.
Did you compare how much resources you get, if you load the whole loadable block into your tipper, instead of drilling to hand pick sizes?
I nearly was shocked how much resources I got from one tipper, as I was hit unexpectedly.
Several hundreds to thousands of mixed resources just after drilling two rocks.
I really can't rant about efficiency of rover/tipper vs. hand picked.
I explicitly avoid crushing rocks into hand pick-able size.
but in beta - it was a simi pain to use the rovers drill - worked great, but a few times as others mentioned - i'd get out and use jackhammer to mine myself. plus sometimes the rocks would fall too close so you'd have to back up/move around to actually try and load the ore. (plus the whole having to pick it back up and drop 10+ times for it to actually get loaded right.....
