Can someone who enjoys the game.
Please tell me what you think about the game and what you don't like.

I don't like listening to someone who already doesn't like the game talk about how much they don't like it.

I love the game.
- What's great about it for me is the building and planning how your base will develop.
- Exploring Mars as it's a huge map.
- The vehicles are cool. I actually dislike driving games, but the Heavy Rover in this game is awesome and the Jetpack once you learn to fly it is really fun too.
- The general feel of the game is different to anything I've played and it's fun being there.
- The technologies are mostly great, i particularly like the electrical system even though some don't.
- The devs are putting a lot of time and focus into improving it which gives me confidence for the future of the game.

What i don't like:
(note most of these will be addresed in updates so it's only temporary dislikes)
- There are many bugs. But then it's only a few days into EA
- The water system lacks a recycling plant so it will run out eventually.
- The case of the disappearing Rover vehicle. (a fix is planned)
- The meteors. I really dislike these as unlike the other disasters, they are base destroyers and can result in hours of repair time if you have a large base.
- The optimisation needs work. My GPU fan is running on high the whole time
- There's a lack of a manual that explains all the structures and devices and how to use them. But this forum is doing a good job and filling the gaps.
- No ability to create extra 02, H20 and C02 cylinders. This is really needed
- The hangar where you keep your large vehicles looks great, but has functional issues and needs a remote control.
- The abandoned bases all seem the same after a while.

I expect my "don't like" list to greatly diminish in the short term as the devs release updates. And i think it'll be a really worthwhile game in the long term.

The game is a survival game. When I look at some comments that don't like things, they are inherently complaining about "survival" aspects that would need to be implemented into the game for it to make sense. If you don't like that, then probably not for you and you won't enjoy it much. If you don't mind the "grindy" aspect of "hide and go seek" to find certain things to progress, or spending hours getting materials to build things, then you probably won't have any issues. There are quite a few bugs still that are pretty annoying, but the devs are active in the community and working on the most important things (based on the comments I see). Overall, I think it is a fairly decent game for the price with a lot of potential the devs can run with if they receive the proper support. It's tough when they're a small team and everyone wants perfection. I have almost 60 hours in I believe and have some achievements that only 0.1% have unlocked (like basic stuff in my opinion). That tells me people just don't understand how to play, or don't have time to figure it out. A lot of comments are like "how do I do this" "I can't progress, what do I do". I'm in the mindset of, I'll play til I figure it out, and it's done me pretty well so far.

If you can deal with those things, then I'd say it's a great game to play around on.

I have been having an absolute blast playing and learning the systems. The thing I don't like though is once you have the base you want all set up ready to go. All I am doing is planting crops and wasting time and going outside for no reason. There needs to be an end game objective to work towards like Building a rocket or making communication to contact people. Maybe have other survivors where you must do odd jobs for them.

To be fair its early access though and in the FAQ on your tablet under vehicles it does mention a rocket ship so who knows might be coming down the pipes.

Also I was thinking earlier today comparing apples to oranges, but thinking the other fav survival game I played was subnautica and that game shines because your constantly on edge from terrors in the ocean and Stress from going deeper. Here there are no terrors but just stress. Stress of losing food, not enough power ect. Once your done your base and have everything set up properly I really don't stress it's more chill and relaxing with no worries. Idk how they would fix that exactly. Stationeers had that prob too but it had you building a rocket ship working your way to NG+ or making a trading station for commerce.

I haven't had a meteorite shower yet and I'm sol 70+ but I have 4 Anti meteorite systems in place setup for the future and really don't see anything to worry about anymore.

Something else I am confused about is the fuses. The way I set my base up is 1 building powered down to save on energy with things that I use once in a blue moon and then my main hab and greenhouse with dome. I originally wanted to connect the other workshop that was powered down to my base and flick the fuse off on it but it still wanted the power drain that it took to power the rest of the hab so I had to split it apart. Its fine just don't understand the point of the fuse then I guess. Prob just another thing to fix in the future when it blows lol.

Having a bit more narrative wouldn't hurt either. Live flavor text in other bases on what happened there... maybe eluding to secrets outside on mars idk give me a purpose to go out and check spots out! Give me a reason to go deeper you know.

I could make my base bigger but I see no reason to when I am content with the amount of energy production I do and am content with the food output and just am kinda finished you know.

Oh and I made the radio and got songs working on it!... but once you walk away from the radio it really only supplies music for that room was hoping i could jam out where ever I went oh well lol.

Edit: Oh I really wish I could pump air OUT of my hab to store in a tank! we have these external Tanks but honestly I create more O2 than the darn pump does so if I could store it somewhere for my long drawn out rover treks that would be nice.

Also I just looked and read on a different thread water can dry up in spots? If true that will give me something to do, but in reality ill just be adding like 6 wells to a new spot, 3 pumps a battery and a very tiny solar farm with a long long Water hose to my base lol.

Wow, these are some great summaries of the current state of the game. I too am loving it, and they've pretty much hit all the pros and cons. If you like helping to guide the direction of the game, are fairly rage-free when it comes to bugs, and want to help support this fascinating game, then get it now. Otherwise, wait a couple months and see what progress has been made.

I'm having a blast despite having to restart every 2 hours or so.
I like building and discovering what the new unlocked stuff does.
I'm not so much an explorer but I don't mind running through some bases.

What I don't like is the tablets giving random tech. I rather see a neutral point and let me select which tech to unlock. Because probably I'm most unlucky, but I'm stuck on medium solar for 7 days now, if it drops I can fill out the whole electrical tree in one go. So that is starting to be quite annoying.

And I was not a happy camper when learning that wells are finite. But the discussion with the devs is still going on, on the forum and there were some great suggestions for it. So looking forward to see what the result will be.

Using vehilcles lags out the game even on a high end PC.
Speaking of RTX 2080 GPU
i5 12600 and 64 GB RAM

I get it, its early access, but outside of vehicles everything is smooth so far. i don't see the caveat why this is.

The grind for tech points is really nasty, but on the flip side. because it is so grindy i always cheer when i finally get another one. I am the person who wants to play from scratch so i picked a start with no blueprints unlocked from beginning. pretty brutal start i gotta say, litterally a run against time (u gotta walk and run a lot, no other way to get around) and find the blueprints and tech points for food processing and growing before your last MRE runs out.

Small platines are somewhat hard to find. But, i learned that there ARE more there then you can see with naked eyes. (Pro Tipp: Turn on Highlight interactive items, and you even find platines in bases you already checked, because they are just very hard to see without that mechanic)

I also kinda thing that the landscape graphics are a bit behind my expectations for a game of 2023 EA. Sometimes i even can see pixels. Really hurts immersion and i had seen better graphics as standard in survival games over 10 years ago, no offense. Mars doesn't even have Foliage, so more effort could have been put into the ground and Rocks i think, since you see that stuff EVERYWHERE.

I finally unlocked my first vehicle, the QUAD, and i strongly dislike it. Not only because the unreal lag and FPS drops while driving, which makes steering this bouncy castle almost impossible. I think i am driving more upside down then otherwise, but do not tell me to stick to Mars speedlimits.

The truck is better in handling, even tho it has also lags, its much more stable and less bouncy. I like it.

Overall i'd say the game is decent in its current state, and has potential to get good.

Like: mechanics, exploring, survival, events aren't too frequent or devastating.
dislike: game load, saving and vehicle travel all lag but I have high hopes this will resolve eventually.

Like having to get off the quad which changes your orientation, in order to look at the map which now doesn't match the way you were going?

the best way to avoid being lost is using marks on the map

From what I can tell, you are limited to 3, is that still the case and are there plans for more? I thought in Prologue you could have several, regardless of color.

I'm running over 1000 hours between the 3 versions over the last couple of years. I love the game. And most of the cons (which are bugs being addressed, part of the planned roadmap or suggestions the Devs are considering adding) are temporary and expected with EA games. This game and it future possibilities make me want to play more and more.
