Both planetary science and astrophysics have come a *long* way since he graduated from West Point in 1951. Just because he was an astronaut does not mean he as any credibility talking about the planetary science of Phobos, Mars, Earth, or any other celestial body.
Second, no one in any *relevant scientific community* thinks that 'monolith' is anything but a natural feature. There are plenty of ways, through geology or asteroid impacts for fractures to result in large, angular blocks. Google naturally occurring angular rock formations. Ireland has some natural hexagonal rock formations that were not created by aliens.
Third, for many people religious beliefs trump any real science. Confirmation bias is very strong in most humans.
Fourthly, your siting Buzz Aldrin is one of the fallacious arguments called argumentum ad verecundiam or Appeal to Authority. That happens when you misuse an 'authority'. In this case using Buzz Aldrin as an authority on planetary science and images taken of Phobos when he is clearly *not* an authority on those.
