Time limit

I heard theres a time limit to finish the game. I was never a fan to be on the clock to enjoy a game... should i be worried about this? i like to take my time. Also i heard this about Shenmue 1. how about the sequel? thanks!

There is a time limit, but trust me, you won't reach that point. You could collect everything in the game multiple times and you still wouldn't reach it.

You start the game in early December and you have until April 15th (in game) to complete it. If you just focus on the story, you can be done before January, and that is without rushing it. If you want to collect everything and max out your moves it will take longer, but you still won't get close to April 15th.

The only way to reach April 15th is if you're playing the game at a snails pace, leave it idle or use a trainer to skip time (or fail one of the story events about 100 times XD)

Similar with Shenmue 2 if I remember right. Seriously it's a game where you can take your time and do it like you want. It's a game I consider everybody can found a personnal way to beat the games depending what they do and how they get from point A to B. Shenmue games are kind of slow game where you can take your time ( except some moments in the story where you have time for do something, like in Shenmue 1 you have to ride a bike and have to to go where you have to go ( but if you fail you just retry no real game over in that games ).

There's a couple of points in both Shen 1 & Shen 2 where if you fail, the day is skipped so you can try again the next day. You can force a failure of the story mission by tripping at these points.

But yes, as those above have mentioned, the time limit is very generous.

Honestly I've never heard of anybody getting the bad endings normally, it's always engineered by failing a section on purpose literally hundreds of times. You'll be fine OP.

1 hour of gameplay = 1 Shenmue world day.

Each hour is approximately 4 minutes of real time meaning the typical 15 hour day is approximately 60 minutes of real time

Shenmue has many secrets lol


In Shenmue I secrets that got in my mind:

Meet the sega CEO in the game this is very secret! and I have not accomplish but saw it on youtube and is on the actual game not the what's shenmue.

Way to Stay very late at night when you search for Bar.

Spend the entire night playing in Arcade by playing Space harrier.

See the Sunset this is super secret and require memory hacking.


Shenmue II:
There is a gun you can see in Shenmue II Koowlon apartment.

A martial art school that has master that tries to read your tiger scroll.

I bet you never saw conversation where Fang Mei suggest you should stay with her in her room.

Or the the girl you fight Izumi in the arcade invite you to "visit her place"

or Got scene where Shenhua tries to kiss you and then start laughing at how Ryo reacts.

There are even some secrets I never knew like secret warehouses in Shenmue II.

The "time limit" is pretty much for narative purposes. The story is supposed to take place over a span of a specific amount of time. Like everyone else says you would have to deliberately try to reach the time limit to ever see it

There is a time limit but not in a bad way. You have plenty of time over to do other things like casino or arcade games. The time limit is not as bad as Zelda Majoras Mask.

Neither had I. I saw the Santa Clause walking around town, but I think that was as far as I got before beating it. ^_^!
