Rather hard to buy a game I already played decaded ago for such money.
Infact after seeing all the hype surrounding this release I decided to go and see why I never heard *anyone* amongst my gaming circle or just in general talking about these back in the day; turns out the Dreamcast was a colossal flop and a disaster of a launch here in Australia.
(Actually a pretty interesting read that caused much head shaking and raised eyebrows)
Would be unreasonably expensive for me to acquire one let alone source the games for them these days.
Never owned any iteration of an Xbox either, so that's off the table for me as well.
So essentially, yeah this port was very welcomed and objectively cheaper than the available alternatives from my perspective.
It's good to see and support more console exclusives and extremely niche things making their way to a greater audience and more platforms these days too.
That seems to be the crux of this ongoing argument on these forums doesn't it.
Those that already played these from decades ago not seeing the benefit of grabbing them again at the asking price vs those of us who are regarding these things as new games that we haven't experienced before, and thus are fine with the asking price.
Ironically that's exactly what a lot of us paid for this anyway thanks to the likes of Voidu or Fanatical etc having good pre-order promos.
Do you know what it took to get Shenmue working on the PC? I don't.
How can you demean the people who spend time bringing this to us and calling their work lousy without an ounce of comprehension about how much work was involved?
I am a programmer myself, i make flash games and I know how hard my peer works. I am not undermining them in any way. I am questioning the price tag, and i don't think it needs that big of price tag. Games such as these have a solid fanbase and hype around so making sure that you get the price right, you actually have to put serious analysis. If it was $20, I can guarantee you it would have sold more copies. Just check current sold copies in steamdb. You will get answer. Then there a re newcomers like me who already have refunded the game. I unlike most of them will be back, but not until I it becomes $10 or less.
I used to just be fixated on the idea of owning my own physical copy, until eventually I just wanted to have it, physical or not. This is finally a means of owning it that's both cheaper and meets moral standards for me.
Sounds like the people complaining still live with their parents.
Well that is not true. There are plenty of DC games that were actually rare and hard to find. Shenmue was a fiver from everywhere as it was popular when the DC was alive.
They could've modernised the controls tbh, it is truly an awful experience moving around. Camera controls are just as bad.
Ahahaha, that's a job site. That's a hilarious way to make it look like you agree while subtly telling someone to get a job.
1) Mehkid did you consider that the game It's a new Release, its common sense when a new game release will cost more, its the norm here on steam and in gaming industry. Hell they even sell Snes port games here for 15$ now that is utterly ridiculous. They use part of that money for marketing expenses. It can't cost less since with time the price Will logically drop. So Strategically is a modest price. Even through some people got the game for 20$ if you search hard enough.
2) It's 2 games not one, so you have to recalculate the price.
I paid 26$ for Both games. 13$ + 13$ =$26
3$ + for a new release not much since a port can end up costing +10$ to 20$ more.
3) Most of the games you mentioned already had a PC release or originally they were PC games.
Shenmue had a complex history. Since Sega changed hands a lot was lost... Especially for a game made 20 years ago. Porting a PC game is extremely easy compared with a older complex game that had to be heavily compressed. Shenmue was extremely complex for it's time.Hell every NPC is unique and they have a programmed schedule they all get up in the morning to work and walk there and then go back to their home. It's ridiculously excessive to program that even through most people would not even notice it. No game bothered to do that back then and even in the modern games they don't.
4) For us Shenmue fans is very cheap.
Shenmue 1 $35.35 + around $100 for shenmue II used(Shenmue II was never released on Dreamcast in the west.) + 80$ used dreamcast Total = $215
5) Is sega taking advantage of fans Hype? I don't think so. As well most companies do that. Look at Squarenix...
6) This was the most expensive game costing around 70 million to produce both games back then. It's production value is huge and that make it worth more than a snes port costing around 8$.
Andddddd.... Unsubscribed from fanboys zone.
