The colored icons that appear above levels. Are those like "medals" that you get for completing a level with a certain amount of deaths? can you explain this please? Thanks.

I can't find a way to get to the last battery in the wizard level - the northern one on the screen with the gate and the two wizards on balconies. When I follow the pathway to this battery, the door that would take me there is inaccessible. There is a purple keycard door on the right wall of the room that should lead to the battery, but when I enter this door, I fall off the map and have to restart :/ help?...
