I've just had a run with Rye where I don't think my weapon was fixed once so I was left feeling like I should have played as someone else. All the other characters have a definite advantage but Rye's is a bit too random for my liking.
Theres way more synergy chance than with say lavender who might get lucky and start with bees water crops.
I'd even take 1 turret over a drone aka robusta's only benefit.
I do fully expect thyme to get nerfed. Like hard. Because theres no reason to play any other character once you got her, except for the sake of variety or your going for year ten robusta.
Personally I'd consider returning rye's 2 days gun don't break thing, but make the gun lose its upgrades on day two. Thats an incredible power with guns like cattling, squirrel, sniper, soaker, etc. Some days you just want certain guns for an area clear or boss.
There's no reason to play him later on, especially compared to Thyme. Adding a full minute to the clock each day is far too powerful. I do hope that instead of 50% more time it gets reduced, maybe even to 25%.
Robusta just sucks in general and I don't like his character one bit. Other than being featured in the trailer there's nothing good about him. It surprises me that his character isn't centered around coffee, considering his name. And damn, trying to get Retromation's Hoodie achievement is driving me insane. Last achievement I need, died three times now trying to do it, and I'm nowhere near getting it.
Lavender and Dandelion are the only characters that seem fine as is. Lavender works fine as a default character, though is still better than Rye. Dandelion is high risk high reward, and works well for that. The unique physics just get you killed in later years though.
Overall the characters in this game need balancing. Rye and Robusta need buffs, and Thyme needs a nerf.
But still, fix Rye, this is terrible at the moment. Rye was fun because you could invest into the guns, while now what's the damn point.
rye is a pretty good character for new players tho IMO. I've been playing him since I unlocked him, the starting turret is starting to feel like an underwhelming advantage on year 4 tho. I don't know what his ability used to do but TBH I'm not overly bothered that it's only a chance to repair your gun since the whole game is kinda RNG based... I wouldn't mind if the chance was more like 40-50% but even if it only happens a few times in a game it can save you thousands of cashews that you can spend on other things.
Yes, except that's a rare chance of the repairs turning out so frequently. As well as the fact that the money can only get you so far. And the fact that every other character except the Literal challenge character has abilities far more powerful than Rye at the moment (Especially Thyme, but also Lavender's extreme growth speed. You can easily outdo Rye money wise if you know what you're doing)
The main issue isn't the power of the ability, it's the lack of consistency with it. When more than half my runs with Rye his power literally doesn't even really come into play, that's a huge problem.
People didn't just pick Rye to save money, he was the OFFENSIVE choice. He was the one you used to smash into bases and try as intensely as you can to blow them away while you building into fighting stat. His old ability complemented that so well. It was fun to be able to do that as it complemented the more fighting focused players who liked to optimise smashing through all the areas.
I'm not happy with a main being nerfed right into the dirt. He didn't even arguably need one, but a minor one would of been fine. But this is just making him have nothing special about him, he's not terrible, he's just forgettable now. Why would I ever pick Rye over anyone else when his one purpose isn't consistent anymore.
There should be a serious compromise here. His old power was a tad too much, but this nerf kills Rye. Completely. Give us a new item that works around the premise of "Offensive focused" while being interesting. That would really fix this.
Hell, you know what would be cool, an exclusive perk of the weapons in question. Like Rye can gain a Mechanical point every time he arrives at the town.
A. He can save them invest into a singular weapon as a permanent pick (That's one expensive perk, makes it always appear in shop)
B. Save them and use the points on a singular weapon every boss day to get a full unlock of perks (2 points, just enough to be before he has a boss fight)
C. He spends a point each day and get a unique perk for the weapon no other player has.
It would give alot of choice to him while avoiding the whole issue with saving stupid amounts of money. There would have to be really careful consideration because you only get a single point a day, and there's long term investment within a run for some of these. It would give Rye alot of gameplay nuance and fit the theming of both offensive and mechanic focused.
Either that, or Mega Turrets would be nice, that's something I really wish we had already.
