Lucia or illmeria?

Which do you think would be best to get first? I can only get one for now, but I'm not sure who to get first.

Having both, I 100% recommend Illmeria. She's an extremely capable front liner, who pairs well with the entire cast (outside of the boys). She also has access to every item type. Lucia is good for progressing through the game, but quickly becomes bad when you reach the superbosses. She also has access to less item types, and she pairs horribly with basically everyone.

Awesome thank you, I've heard she's good to make battles a bit easier, but I'm personally playing hard and practically sleeping through every battle/boss.

This game is ultra easy even on Hard, but it becomes more challenging once you reach high level bosses (not part of the story)(post-game). Even with divine/ultimate traits on all equips, they can and will kill your party multiple times, so you will need a mix of awesome items for resurrect, amazing armors and either weapons or items that bends the physics laws for having better chances.
But you don't need any DLC character to complete 100% the game.

Just a heads up, the boys do not suck as you might think. They just fufill different roles. I lost count of the number of times Mateus was able to resurrect the rest of my party in the post game, being as tanky as he is, and Alt is the perfect partner for Sue when you enhance his gear with added effects, such as pain (Especially Pain) . The trick with them is to use them RIGHT! Mateus is pretty much a tank, no mader how you build him. Accel guard is his most used skill for me, and it is used in one of the fame challenges, so it will see some use.
