Do I need to play other Atelier games first before starting this one?
Do I need to play other games in order to follow the game history, or can I just hop right into this?

The atelier series are usually released in trilogies. This is the final one in the mysterious trilogy. You dont have to play the previous games in the trilogy to enjoy it but it would spoil you a few things about a lot of returning characters especially the protagonists from the 2 previous games. And of course you would miss some references to events that happened in the 2 previous games.Despite saying this i don't think you would lose much by skipping Atelier Firis but would really reccomend that you at least play through atelier Sophie 1st since a couple of main characters from that one get big resolutions to their story arc in this game.
Ok, I see.
Thank you so much for all that information!! Really usefull for me starting to play this series :D

Unpopular opinion: you REALLY should play Sophie => then Firis => then Lydie, cuz i swear, basically 99% of the game dialogs are based on the assumption you know what happened in the previous games. I can't understand why most people say you can just play any Atelier as standalone. Well sure you can, as you can watch the third Matrix movie, or the third Lord of the Rings movie or even a third season of a TV series without watching the first two.

I'm nearing the end game and basically the whole game assumes you played both Sophie and Firis. Just a few dialogs and characters are standalone.

Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, etc.
Any game of this series is self-sufficient. Taking Lydie & Suelle as a basis, you can consider the first two parts as a prequel.
