We've heard the feedback regarding the ending, and are working on another update to help with clarity (primarily in the credits, as you see the resolution to the question about Persimmon and Paxton in those images). And as for leaving things open for a sequel....depending on how well the game ends up doing, we would love to have the opportunity to revisit Emrys and dive in a bit deeper. :)
I played the latest version available on Switch atm (v1.2.0 I think), and there were indeed some pictures in the credits showing the return of Persimmon and Paxton, but tbh it feels kinda disappointing to only show one slide with Liza's girlfriend after the game ends... I mean I got incredibly attached to the characters in the small amount of time it lasted, it's your fault developers ! ;) I seriously need more info on this world and/or a sequel, my money is ready!
The first of the two important subjects I was really confused about were Persimmon and Paxton - why and where were they held that extra time after they were promised to be released... and then assumedly released right after Jun left (though we don't know exactly when that was anyways)? And just as importantly, why do we care just as much about Paxton when we have no idea who he/she is lol
The other main one for me was that you had Jun come back AFTER she left for good in the credits. I know she had a manhunt out for her, and it was a feel-good moment that fit with the emotions at the time, but there's a few things really troubling about this.
-Firstly, my Jun asks to stay at the end and is talked out of it like it's a given she needs to go back because she's a human (I won't even get into this part lol).
-More importantly, she's using a sword that cuts dimensions for fun and either it or she (or both?) are hinted as the key to keeping the portal open forever... so unless that's being used as material for the sequel, I can't imagine there aren't reprecussions to opening the only public portal in both worlds at unscheduled times with a dimension cutting sword haha (darn teenagers lol)
Finally, and less important but still important to most of us that loved the game, it would be nice to see some kind of romance options after all the time we spent getting to know our friends. Or at the very least, see the conclusion to the side quests we completed (King especially for me heh)
And actually one last thing that I almost forgot about - there was a lot of time spent pointing out Horace's continuing weakness to the dungeons.... and then nothing. Dunno if there's anything to add really, but sort of felt like you guys dropped the ball with a good emotional arc there :/
Thanks for a great short and sweet game!
I could keep going, but the game is an exhausting waste to consider all the dropped balls. God forbid you attached to anyone but Liza for all of the nothing you get for character moments, or that you think making choices like who to text or who to take in the dungeons actually matters to the story. May as well have just let you do everything in one playthrough instead of pretending the game had any replay value, especially when one ending is literally just the same ending but with more info.
If the developers still check this stuff, I have a couple suggestions outside of developing a complete story before releasing something feeling half finished. First, make the side quests mean something. I couldn't offer a suggestion as to what, but having them be nothing was a let down. Second, improve your dash/dodge mechanic. It doesn't seem to do anything. Sure you can speed around the battle area a bit more. But on some maps, when there's lots of narrow stretches and melee enemies, instead of dodging past them they would all hit me. Even if I got 3 blocks past them in the dash, the hits would still happen after I moved. One battle in the Horace challenge area was especially bad for this.
You could have Jun go back to Emrys after getting a text from Liza trying to tell her about some big problem but the message getting jumbled by something or someone. Plus sense Jun is half Emryn she could (in theory survive on Emrys for longer than the regular human.
The bosses may have gotten the runes for the weird sword because they were the first grievances and they've been absorbing raw magic for the longest (Cerisse said that was why Rainy was turning into a greivance himself). Maybe the shrines blessed the bosses as their protectors and that is what the runes are. Either way the bosses got the runes from being in the shrines. Maybe the bosses were the creators of the shrines. Idk.
Honestly would just love for there to be more to this story though. Hope you see this and maybe reply. :)
Your last point I find interesting cause for me it was *Rainy* who was feeling weak in the dungeons and almost turned into a grievance right before the final boss. He was fine cause, according to Cerisse, we left the shrine quick enough. Although that just left me with even MORE questions! Also no one considers the morals of fighting grievances after the team realize they absolutely are people and can still happen. Like, no one worried that Persimmon and Paxton might have turned into grievances?
Also it felt like your dialogue options didn't hold any weight even during seemingly crucial moments. For example, my Jun never forgave Liza, but then everyone were still all chummy in the ending credits
