(EDIT2: Most stuff in the game is static objects -- there are a few books that can be read (EDIT3: ...instantly recogniseable as "hero props", compared to the low level of detail on other books), but otherwise the adjunct is almost the only way you interact with the world.)
What sort of controls is the game giving you, exactly? ...and you really mean you're getting tutorial prompts for mouse, rather than your hand controllers?
I do agree that controls should aways be configurable as much as possible, but there *is* at least a choice of which hand does the locomotion in options, and, at least for me, I get the control scheme used by almost every other game: Translation on the stick/trackpad on one hand; Forward, Backward, Strafe left and right; And turning on the stick on the other...
EDIT: ...or wait... are you playing in VR, but by choice using mouse and keyboard instead of room-tracked hand controllers?
