No (dynamic) shadows when playing in VR?
Was looking at some reviews of the VR part and noticed the lack of shadows. Watched a gameplay video of someone playing the non-vr version and there are dynamic shadows and way more shadows in general. Is there really forced off shadows in VR?

Non-VR Gameplay. Right at the beginning the chair, table, boxes, etc. cast a shadow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5RCHI1xNJ4

VR gameplay, at 0:34 the same scene. Nothing casts a shadow like in the non-vr gameplay: https://youtu.be/jM-lZPi6TeA?t=34

Is this an option the reviewer might have turned off? (But different VR video has also no shadows) Are they completetly disabled in VR? Can we turn shadows back on?

Shadows are here in vr but broken in left eye for me. Realtime shadows disappear when set to Low and affect VR framerate a lot when enabled even on Medium. RTX 2080 and Rift CV1.

About the broken part: ♥♥♥♥!

But Shadows are is good. Maybe the mirror was rendering the wrong eye? Hope the rendering issue gets fixed. Really want to play this in VR first.

Shadows can be turned on/up in VR, but they don't work right and look bad for me. This isn't a performance concern, the game runs smoothly, but shadowing just seems to be implemented incorrectly in VR.

- All graphics settings on Epic, no shadows and muddy textures down. With female characters the textures are ok
(RTX 3080 ti 12Gb vram / 64Gb ram / Intel 7-11700K )
HP Reverb G2 - the controller assignment is unfortunately bad

Hoshi Du musst da mal wieder ein Video machen ...

I’m having the same problem a the shadows look terrible in one eye. I’m also noticing they LOD dramatically at more than 10 feet away, so they become a blocky mess. The game currently looks better in VR with them at Low (effectively dynamic shadows off).
A fix would be very much appreciated! I kind of want to hold off on playing until it’s resolved,

Was worried about that too, that LOD also took a big hit in VR. Nothing more immersion breaking than item geometry or pop in at a close distance. Yes VR is ressource hungry but that's what graphic options are for. Don't just give low, medium, high. We're not on a console. Give us detailed options like how it's done normally. LOD slider, AA, anisotrophic, shadows, post process, etc.

Will wait too until the VR part gets fixed and hopefully more individual graphic options. Thanks for all the replies.

I've been playing the game in VR on and off for a few days, and the shadow issue is really frustrating. Constant flickering, especially on shadows at a distance, and looking weird and blocky in one eye. I'm going to have to stop playing and wait for a fix, unfortunately. It's just too distracting.

Running this on an RTX 3090 with a Ryzen 9 5950X and 32GB RAM, with wired link to Quest 2. All drivers up to date.

I have the same problem with GTX 1070 and Oculus CV1. Different shadow details/blockiness on each eye, lights seems to flicker too.

Was there already an update to address the VR issues?

Don't think so; still waiting for my VR-designed game to work properly in VR :(

Did the latest patch do anything to address this issue?

So I just fired the game up after not playing for a couple of weeks, and the shadow issue might be fixed!

I didn't have a lot of time to play, but I loaded up into the area with the power lines in Juleston, which is surrounded by some distant trees that I believe used to display this problem. Lo and behold, there wasn't a single flicker to be seen!

Edit: Alright, got a chance to play more. There are still a few issues, especially in St. Andrews. The trees don't look flickery anymore, but many of them exhibit a strange depth issue. There are also still a few places in St. Andrews where the shadows are not synced between eyes, so they either flicker or you see objects lit with sun with one eye and shadowed in the other. And some places where the shadows flicker a bit, and then only become visible when you're right on top of the object casting them.

So, overall it seems improved... but when it's broken, it's still rather broken, unfortunately.

Tested at Epic settings using a GTX 3090 and a Quest 2.

I just tested the shadows - nothing at all has been fixed with patch 4, shadows are as broken as ever:

Using RTX 3090 and Index. But using low shadows are ok with me, the game still looks stunning - and I'm using epic settings for other settings (DLSS Quality, Index res 225%, 80 Hz for 80 fps, antialiasing at medium higher does not look better - lens flares off, these look strange in VR - remaining settings maxed).

Aww man. I really was looking forward to play this in VR. So more waiting and hoping this will get fixed.
