IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz

IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz

Is the Blitz edition as expanded as 1946 (with mods)?
I got a joystick and I've been enjoying 1946 but I'll be honest and say that the game is showing its age. I'm not sure of I want to invest in Stalingrad yet because it seems to be lacking when it comes to content. Is the Blitz edition of CoD pretty expanded? Is it limited to the channel or can I play really anywhere?

No, it's only channel map, France/UK and sea. Next expansion will add north Africa (Tobruk). Blitz or even Battle of... don't have huge number of maps or planes. It's more advanced game than old 1946, everything takes way longer to make. But it's more detailed and realistic.

If you want more content, go for Battle of... it has way more stuff but it's highly expensive to get all of it.
Includes maps of kuban, Stalingrad, moscow, Lapino (fake map), Vielkie Luki and soon map for ww1 but I don't remember where, some village under kursk for tank expansion and france/belgium/germany for 1945 Bodenplatte eexpansion.

And there are plans for Pacific. Plus there is a bit of collectioner planes for 20$ if not on sale, like ju52, mc202, fw190 a3 and more.

If you don't want to spend lots of money, get clod. One game, soon new expansion, no separate planes to buy, more planes planned to be added in expansion than Battle of... does.

It's also early war (for now) 1940-1941, moving into 1942. While Battle of... is moscow 1941, Stalingrad 1942 and Kuban 1943. Upcoming Bodenplatte late 1944-1945.

Blitz needs more work and support, success of first expansion depends if we will get more or it's over. So I highly recommend getting Blitz and expansion when it comes, it's quite cheap. If you have no problem with money, get Battle of... as well. It's more polished since it's already 4 years while blitz just started.

With this logic you wont really play a flying sim for years. Simply because there does not exist a game as big as 1946 and won't be in next years. It's costly and time consuming to create detailed world now than it was in 2001. Technology changes, compare it with pixel mario. It would be easy to make, fast and cheap, anyone could actually make it with some minimal graphic skills. Now try to make game like assassin's creed chronicles. Just because both have camera from side and are platform games does not mean it's on the same level. Same with 1946 vs blitz and bos. But if you are interested in quantity only, then war thunder should be perfect. Huge number of planes and maps around the world. But maps are way smaller and it's not very realistic.

You're right. I didn't think about that. Do either Blitz or Battle of... have detailed startup checks or is it just start the engine and let's go like in 1946?
its more detailed. fuel levers , rad levers...

It's not DCS level of start up but you do click on some stuff, fuel, radiators and then bunch of other stuff is there to click, flaps, bomb panel etc.

Battle of Stalingrad does not have it, there you click one button on keyboard and it starts automatically, tho it's realistic start up, all is animated and you see every button pushed etc. You just don't do it.

So I got CloD yesterday and unfortunately it seems to have trouble running on my computer as if it were unoptimized. Micro-stutters here and there, disabling Aero mode in Windows (not a huge problem but kind of weird), random alt-tabbing, and especially; audio stutters. I googled it and apparently the Spitfire engine is supposed to sort of cut out? That's cool and all but if it's the case it doesn't sound very well done. It makes it sound like the game is stuttering.

Maybe it's my rig?

3.4 ghz
1060 6gigs
8 gigs of RAM
Win7 64bit

Maybe refund and get Stalingrad instead? It's a shame because the manual input system in CloD is really, really cool!

That's how spitfire and hurracine works.

Read pinned topics, there is a lot of fixes for diffrent problems. Just find yours.
Game should soon be updated to 5.0 (4,5 now) so i assume many problems will get fixed and new content added.

Disabling steam overlay was fixing some problems too. I don't recommend to minimalize game or use shift+tab. It's the best to turn off steam overaly. Right click on game in library, properites and uncheck steam overlay.

It just doesn't sound right though. It sounds as if it was cutting out of the game. It doesn't sound like an engine cutting out. That's what I'm saying.

Guess so, it's not a big deal tho (especially when i dont even fly RAF hehe) I am sure it will get fixed one day, it's just not on high piority list. And if you will learn how to fly spitfire or hurracine righht way, you wont even get these engine cut off.

*Work in progress* New expansion in northh africa, new map, new planes.

Hello Croco

You should be able to run the game without stutters with your system.

Start by reducing the number of buildings and trees. Then look at reducing resolution.

Check the ATAG forums for suggestions... please read the Beginner's Guide in the pinned section of this message board too.

The Spitfire and Hurricane engines will cutout if you push the nose down... it was a function of the carburetion system on the early Merlin engines.

I think he meant sound, engine cut makes no sounds, just a silence. While in that battles of britain movie it gives some black smoke and makes this weird sound like choking.

Just my own 2 cents, but Blitz seems to fit somewhere between a study sim and survey sim. You get 12 aircraft; 5 allied and 7 Axis. The aircraft are Hurricane, Spitfire, Blenheim, Tiger Moth, Beaufighter (Allied), BF 109, BF 110, Ju 87 Stuka, Ju 88, HE-111, Fiat G.50, Fiat Gicogna (Axis.) On top of that, there's usually a number of variants for each, which for some aircraft feel distinctively different from one variant to the other.

The new Beaufighter is an awesome aircraft - the roar of its engines is something to behold! if you go to the theairtacticalassaultgroup.com website and browse, you can find a fan-made campaign that lets you do some ground attack missions with it.
