so, id say, to whoever expects this game to go free in the future and does not own it, id recommend buying it in the next few weeks while the sale is still active.
and adressing the server issues, this is not a new thing. "free-to-play" games only exist because they monetize in another way. OR the servers could be community hosted. Maybe there's a way to use Servers Steam offers, but tbh i dont know much about those. P2P is also always an option, but tbf its not always great, especially considering something that needs fast reaction.
so tldr; if the devs are smart, i expect them to
1. make the game free
2. add paid (visual only) cosmetics, maybe even gun skins
3. maybe even add map packs where everyone can use them as long as one player owns them in the lobby.
this is not a dealbreaker, its a challenge with a lot of solutions, which could only be held back by development issues, or bad unmodular code.
only issue with this is, that this heavily relies on them being able to bridge the timespan where this makes no money, and them planning to keep developing products and/or add fair quality micro-purchases to the existing game.
