Lost everything 16 hours in...

I'm not completely sure why, but I got on today to continue playing, finished with everything but the DLC and the ending, and the game prompts me to "create a profile".

All of my progress is just gone, don't know why, or how, and now I'm not sure I want to go through the effort, I'm just really disappointed.

You can beat the game in 30 minutes once you know how, all you lost was computer logs

OMG these comments are just adding insult to injury. But I echo the sentiment; you'll be surprised how quickly you get through it again if you start again. But it would be nice if someone had a save file of everything but the DLC or something.

At the time of the dlc release, the dev posted such a save with the game completed but not the dlc. You may look into that on the forum.

It is true that the end can be reached within one loop- within the first loop, to be precise. There's even an achievement for it.

Still, it hurts. I, too, have lost an account, luckily not too far in.

Same thing just happened to me right now - it crashed & then prompted me to create a new profile next time I opened it. Losing all my progress.

The problem was the much.owprofile file in here had been blanked out
{USER}\AppData\LocalLow\Mobius Digital\Outer Wilds\SteamSaves

Fixed it by creating a new profile "new2" & pasting the contents below (that I got from the new2.owprofile file) back into my original much.owprofile file (and changing new2 to my original profile name):
