need help with deep impact

Note that the solution above is an exploit. The "official" solution is to use a special device (the gravity cannon) in one of the planets...

i ended up looking for an island that extended the deepest into the ocean. land and wait for it to launch into space, then maneuver my ship onto the bottom and waited for it to fall back into the ocean. I didn't actaully get into the next layer but the achievement triggered.

Sounds sus... Too week...

Best thing is to blast off and start a timer on your phone for 7 minutes. Hold S (reverse) and try to face kinda polar north or whatever from the solar system so that when you come back you'll be looking at the flat (ish) system plane, no planets in the way. On your way out, select Giants Deep so you know where to aim when you come rocketing back in.

7 minutes out, 7 minutes to slow down and come back, 7 minutes to return plus the 1 minute to get into the seat.
