The only things you retain from each loop are logs stored in the ship.
You can consider the village a tutorial, the game hasn't properly started yet. If you need to quit there's nothing that needs to be done a second time when you pick it back up

Seeing the statue is not the start of the game, there's a second event that looks very similar to it, just don't exit before then. You will experience it pretty soon.
After then you'll realise why you don't need to worry about these questions! but until then you'll have to go and get the codes because you're playing a brand new game each time
