It's just one of many curiosities in the world of Outer Wilds, though, nothing wrong with just stumbling onto it naturally. You can't mistake it for anything else, so when you do find it, you can just note it down and come back later.
There are only two ways to start DLC content, the first (main one) being very specific and time relevant, the other being so unprobable it's not gonna happen... well, probably. therefore IMO there is no downside by having the DLC already activated from the start.
Although I suggest you to do the main mysteries and the main story conclusion before searching for the DLC
Don't listen to anyone telling you when to go where. Go where you want. Go in completely blind. This includes the dlc locations. It is the best way.
For that reason: I say leave it on. It's pretty unlikely that you'll stumble across it accidentally, but you never know.
