This game is actually scary as hell

I have only played it a bit and only gone thr several loops but damn this is some scary ♥♥♥♥, not the traditional horror with ghosts or monsters or killers, but some existential and apocalyptic fear.
The first time I descended into the atmosphere of that ocean planet ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the scenery genuinely scared me, like those water tornadoes, the planet wide constant hurricane and the fact that there ain't no ground beneath the ocean only a blackhole looking like core, thankfully it doesn't suck me in. I actually got a little stressed out from playing the game knowing that soon the sun would go supernova.
This is some good ♥♥♥♥.

Not yet, I have caught a glimpse of it from the holographic thingy the Nomai left behind in one of their facility ruins tho, looks like a world with tons of them scary ass plants, that and I have checked out the seed that slammed onto the home planet where there's harmonica music coming outta the gigantic plant tentacle.

For me it was the fear of the unknown, same vibes as delving deep into the dark abyss in Subnautica as you hear the roar of something terrifying...

It certainly isn't a "horror" game in the common use of the word though... in fact it is kind of comically bad at certain parts of the game when it does try to be (not Dark Bramble mind you, that area is great).

Yeah I think of Subnautica too, the endless void of space and the bottomless ocean really invoke similar anxiety imo.

It's called cosmic horror. Not many people get it, that's also the reason so many people post threads about not understanding why the game is considered so good, the graphics suck, no action etc.

It's a completely different kind of horror.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm kind of a ♥♥♥♥♥ when it comes to horror. I am easily scared ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ by everything relatively scary but I still have a lot of fun with it. I remember the first time I went to giant's deep(which happened to be on my first loop) I broke the cloud cover and was just immediately like "AHHH GET OUT GET OUT FLY UP OH GOD PLEASE FLY UP". You can imagine my reaction to dark bramble. I didn't even see anything relatively scary or anything, just fog, I just got to the area and alt+F4d after about 4 seconds and took a few minutes to rethink my life choices. The water in giants deep also terrified me to an unbelievably high degree. If you haven't played the game, you can probably imagine that at some points you would have to go in the water for some reason. And when I found one of those reasons, it took me DAYS to literally just dip into the water for a short 5 seconds. You can imagine my reaction to *a certain part* of the dlc if you've played it. I absolutely love this game for how much fun and fear I've gotten out of it.

I totally agree, I am constantly freaked out and have to remind myself to pull it together and stop panicking, lol. I am enjoying the game nevertheless. But I really have to force myself to go to certain planets / areas.

Enjoy! The DLC is great. I remember when it launched and we were all kind of anxious and afraid that Outer Wilds was really just a one-hit wonder and there's no way they could repeat such a triumph...but somehow they did.
