Did you understood the story by yourself ?
I did not. After 12 hours of having fun discovering all the planets, i got bored and i spoiled myself on the internet. I would've never understood the story by myself, it's a mess.
Is it just me ?

probably? it all makes easy sense if you read most of the important lines of text (which shouldnt be super hard to find?)

Yeah I get it pretty well and I barely even read anything. Most of the time I would just skim through the text and get the summary in the ship log. It's a game that you won't really be able to understand until the end when you've put everything together.

Well, working out what happened is a big part of it - you aren't supposed to understand it all until the end of the game.

I think the only thing I didn't initially realize was that the universe was coming to an end, and the Outer Wilds sun going nova inadvertently set off the Alpha Twin project that starts the time loop. On my first playthrough, I still thought the Sun Station was somehow the cause of the nova, but it makes sense when I put the clues together now.

I also don't think I understood that the Interloper comet was what killed the entire Nomai race in the system. Again, the clues are there to figure this, but I was rushing through the comet to finish it before another reset and didn't really put that together.

Everything else made sense to me though.

The OP mentions that he read the entire story already. But fair enough, I added tags. Feel free to edit or do the same in the quoted portion of your post.

the entirety of the story is within the game and very consumable. you spoiled yourself for no reason, chief
Fear Ghoul Jul 14, 2022 @ 9:47pm
The story really isn't that hard to figure out.
Red Bat Jul 26, 2022 @ 12:56pm
Mostly. Pretty much the entire plot is told to you in very clear wording in one mandatory location if you somehow missed it everywhere else. You can technically fill in most of the gaps and put together a coherent and accurate timeline if you visit like 2 other major locations. What requires a lot more exploration is finding out the "reasoning" behind why everything happens, which is never explained entirely straight to you in regards to any of the plot threads in a single location. You kind of have to piece it together using the clues on the little rumor web, picked up from all over.

The one thing I would have never figured out myself was not only can you land on Hollow Lantern, but there's a wordwall there that adds a minor detail to the story.

For the most part yes. But there were details I didn't really know about and only found out about them later.

I understood it, but misinterpreted some elements, even though (in retrospect) they were very clearly spelled out.
In particular, I maintained a belief all the way through my first playthrough that the Interloper is what triggered the supernova. Something I "realized" early on and then just never reconsidered in light of new information.

Yeah i also got this.
I even tought for a long time the interloper was the eye...

I'm not trying to insult you two, but it was pretty obvious to me the Interloper going into the sun wasn't causing the supernova, since you see the sun changing color and expanding the whole time, and the game even has you go to the museum and see the display about it.

One thing I didn't understand at first was about the sixth location, which I thought was necessary to finding the Eye, so I was confused when I beat the game and never went there. I ended up having to ask here to get some hints about how to get there.

Same while it was so obvious.
The puzzles on giant's deep and the stone on ember twin gave the trick away fairly obviuos yet i did not make the link.
