A question on plot hole or hole in my head... [spoilers]
Why is it impossible to arrive at the eye by jumping out of the quantum moon while keeping it photographed? Am I missing some piece of lore? Seems like if your quantum moon is on Timber Hearth, then when you jump out of it, you will be in orbit of that planet. Same with every planet but not with the eye.

The quantum moon orbits all the planets plus the eye. When you turn off all the lights in the tower, the moon moves to a different planet and thus will mirror that planet's environment. You can then jump out of the planet surface and you will appear orbiting the planet that the moon was mirroring.

It works for every planet but not the eye. Even if you place a scout to observe the planet so it doesn't shift

I thought you couldn't get off the moon from that location since you don't have your ship, am I remembering wrong?

I don't think it's ever clearly explained why you can't just leave the QM in its EotU state to reach the Eye. The Nomai tried and found that, essentially, "you just can't."

It seems like they just didn't want you to get to the Eye that way so they didn't allow it. This really should have had some sort of an explanation.

When the Quantum Moon mirrors the Eye, it's clouds become like the Eye's maelstrom, which form a wind gust barrier that prevents you from jumping out unlike the other variants of the moon.

But you can leave the Quantum Moon. You just end up at Timber Hearth for no real reason.

Yeah that's a bit awkward then

Thee is a real reason (i think) : you arrive at the Timber Hearth version of the Quantum Moon for about the same reason you find yourself in a similar environment to Timber Hearth when entering the Eye.
Nomai born on Brittle Hollow would therefore probably arrive at the Brittle Hollow version of the Quantum Moon, and Nomai from Ember Twin on the Ember Twin version : it would be in each case the most familiar thing the Quantum Moon can be to the corresponding person.

OK, that might actually be what they were thinking. Personally, I think it would have been better if you were just killed by the matter surrounding it or something.

The Eye is described as being Quantum as well as the Moon and it's bits - Solanum posits to you on the Quantum Moon that the Moon itself is only Quantum because of it's proximity to the Eye. Additionally, that the closer you get to the Eye the less predictable everything becomes. You can't see it from within the Quantum Moon even though you know you should be orbiting it, I just took it that the space around the Eye unstable in the area that you NEED the exact location AND to warp there (you can't even move through space to it from the Vessel, you have to warp down to the surface), not just move there normally, otherwise you'll get turned around. As for the Moon dumping you out at Timber Hearth, it's probably just as Perseus said.

I think you all overlooked a really easy fact: Even when you are on the QM while its near the EotU, why would you expact to end up on the surface of the eye? Since the eye is THE major source of quantum flaktuation you would need to have a photo of it to stop it from moving.
The probe can reach the eye since its an unconscious observer and it happens just by chance (and a few couple of tries). With the location set you teleport there and lock it in place because you observing it from up close.
The north pole itself is also special, since you can see at every "planet proximity" another big structure or weather extrem. I assume that the space-time around the eye act like a hyperbolic space, so we poor hearthians with our 3D brains cant even comprehend why we end up were we end up ;)

Simply, no. its just not coded like that. the intended way to beat the game is the only way.

The eye is also quantum, just like the moon. You might have a picture of the moon and you are observing the moon, but you are not observing the eye. So, when you jump off the moon, perhaps the Eye itself moves, hence why every single tracker that the Nomai made fails to locate the eye and just spins in circles. The eye is everywhere, and no where. Perhaps every quantum shard is the eye.

The other thing that the game does not directly address is what happens when their are multiple observers. When two people look at the moon, what happens. The answer is that each observer gets their own moon. The moon is not moving. The moon is in all locations at the exact same time. Think about it. Solumin is on the moon. She is observing the moon while it is at the 6th location. Yet the moon still moves around when you blink. You still see the moon at other locations. The moon moves for you but stays still for Solumin.

When you jump off the moon at the 6th location, you don't just end up on Timber Hearth. You end up at a very specific location. The Quantum Glade of Timber Hearth where every tree and sign is quantum. Perhaps the glade is one of several locations of the eye. When you jump off the moon, you cease to be entangled with the moon but are not entangled with the eye or observing the eye, so the eye is free to take any of its forms in any of its locations.

Perhaps the coolest explanation.
