Why is protagonist called "Hatchling"?
I'm trying to translate it to my language but I have no sense for me.
I've found it can be translated like "youngling", "child", otherwise fandom in my country would be confused by this translation.
Could you pleeease explain me? :Hearthian_Cry:

...or maybe give an alternative and meaningful name to our hearthian (in russian, to be more precise).

Because you're pretty young - this is your first time out into space compared to the more seasoned explorers. And I think Hearthians are probably born from eggs, so you hatched from an egg, though I don't think we know much about their reproduction.

I guess in real life a 50 year old could call a 30 year old "kid". It's a term of endearment that would be used between people that have known each other for a long time, with one being older and more experienced than the other. Some people may call him hatchling, but it would be strange to call him that ourselves. If you are trying to write about this character, I wouldn't use a term like that. Perhaps something like like "the explorer" or "the player-character" is more clear.

I never paid attention to that detail.
Does ot means the heartian lay eggs ? It would make sense since they used to be aquatic creatures and are now terrestrial and most amphibian creatires are ovipares.

They're also genderless as a society so I'm not sure if they're sequential hermaphrodites like many fish or if they have an entirely different means of reproduction (or just have a constant sex but not gender). But eggs seems reasonable.

Oh you brought me one idea. The problem I'm talking about is curious and we'll wait for possible solution. As for now, I'll try with "kid" translation, thanks for explaining :Hearthian_Wink:

definitely means that your main character is young - so 'young one' 'youngster' or 'youngling' would all be good words too

This is somewhat explained in game. You can tell one of the other explorers about visiting the Quantum Moon. They'll speculate that it was a right of passage for the Nomai. Then they liken it to a Hearthian being a hatchling until their stomach develops enough to tolerate Sap Wine. I think there was another dialog in the village also talking about Sap Wine.

they're combining "youngling", like kid, with "hatch", like from an egg. so because their species hatches from eggs, they use "hatchling" as a friendly term for someone young
