I don't get it
Downloaded this game because it was Skill Up's best of the year and "some people say the best game ever made".

So far just feels like a walking simulator. Scanned some stuff. Found some frequencies but nothing is actually happening. Just logging stuff.

Not finding upgrades, completing anything, and every time I unlock new conversation paths they don't actually do anything.

Is this game just for hipsters that masterbate to esoteric indy stuff?

You don't upgrade anything in the game. The game is about exploration and puzzle solving.

Have you played more than 20 minutes after leaving the planet ?
Because if you haven't, you're probably the kind of person who's going to complain on his next post that his game didn't save.... (which is absolutely normal storywise but you would'nt know if you haven't played more than 20 minutes).

Yeah it's just a walking simulator where you look at cool stuff. Better refund now before it's too late.

I too bought it after watching many reviews including Skillup's.
I really want to like this game, but after about 1,5 hours I have quite a few problems with it. First, no 144hz which is a pain in the ass considering my 144hz monitor, but ok, indie game, walking simulator, no need for quick movements, I can live with below 144hz performance.
Controlling the spaceship is too hard, I died twice by smashing into the sea or to the ground, and also died because I ran out of oxygen.
The funny thing is, I died not once because of the timeloop mechanic. :)
Perhaps I'll play more with the game, but after 1,5 hours I don't feel anything special about it, just a usual walking sim which got extremely popular for some reason..

The game is about discovering the world youre in, understanding the narrative and just enjoying the story. I guess you just either like this game or you dont

anybody who calls this game the "best game ever made" definitely have not played many games. One of the most visually stunning games ever? sure, but there is more to a game's enjoyment factor than it simply looking nice.

From what i've seen, a lot of the people who love this game fall into this category, probably the same people who think that breath of the wild is one of the best games of all time.

Its one of the better games I've played, for sure. Doesnt have much to do with with the visuals, but more about the story, journey, how you discover everything and how all the characters, including you, are so heavily tied into it.. The ending is great too and will probably live rent-free in my head forever. One of the best games ever made? No, but an awesome GOTY contender

Shortest possible explanation I can give is that this game is Myst in space. It's about solving puzzles. If you don't like solving puzzles there will not be much enjoyment to be derived here. If you like solving puzzles then get ready for some insane, next-level ♥♥♥♥ because holy ♥♥♥♥ these puzzles are incredible. The reason you haven't been "completing anything" is simply because the game is kinda hard. Definitely easier than Myst and The Witness, but hard nonetheless.

A puzzle game, yes, but with a lot more exploration and a little platform action, too. Talos Principle would be a more pure puzzle game.

You can manually get the game to run at 144 hz, they just hide the option because it involves increasing the physics rate of the solar system so it's VERY demanding on your system.

Method is here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/753640/discussions/0/2518023667592027954/

Also I'm super confused whenever people call this a walking sim. Walking sims are:
1) linear games
2) in which you walk
3) through a narrative heavy experience

This is an incredibly non-linear game in which you fly (and as you've even commented, newtonian space flight can take some learning, so it's very different from walking by just holding down a key) and there's actually not really a heavy narrative. It's there, but the plot was written around the game instead of the game just being an excuse for the plot.

I'd consider the average Call of Duty far more of a walking simulator than this game, so I have no idea why people come up with that description.

As someone who has been playing games since the 80's and has played a ton of them, nope.

This is the best game I've ever played, and it's honestly not even close. I even went through and made a list of my favorite games to confirm I wasn't exaggerating how good it was to myself.

Other games I've played have been great, but this is the only one I consider perfect. Usually they're ambitious, but flawed - but there are no flaws at all here, and nothing I would change (well, maybe one section of the DLC slightly, but nothing in the base game).

Eh, not me particularly - my favorite game list is mainly immersive sims, isometric RPG's, 4x games, Paradox games, and Dark Souls/Bloodborne. I guess a few indie puzzle games and stuff. Played a little breath of the wild and it was pretty fun hurling things around with magnetism, but it also seemed a little bland, hardly best game of all time material.

Basically, the question is: Do you like exploring in a game? If so, this is the game for you.

If not you'll wonder what the point is.

It's the unique entry in the genre of Exploration games. Since I personally love exploration - see the fact that I like immersive sims and Dark Souls mainly for their exploration being excellent - it's the best game I've played since it gets to the point and doesn't shove in clunky inventory mechanics, bad combat (like basically every RPG, to be honest), artificial unnatural puzzles, or excessive pretentious dialog.

I'm surprised you didn't like BotW more then, since I found the exploration in that game a lot of fun. I also really liked exploring in Shadow of the Colossus, even though there wasn't really a point to a lot of it. Of course, I also like Pathologic 2, so that means I'm just some snobbish artsy type who likes to feel superior to everyone with my refined tastes in gaming I guess.

I thought this game was great, but not my favorite game ever, and I wouldn't even put it near the top. My favorite games are Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, Metal Gear Solid, and Super Metroid I'd say. As you can tell from my picture, I was blown away by Cyber-Shadow last year as well, and that's shot up there to be one of my favorite games ever, easily the best game I played last year.

As with literally everything in life, people have different tastes. Personally I really enjoyed this game, it's definitely pretty high up there for me. This game pullls off the same tricks that The Witness does really well which is teaching you how to beat the game as you play it and experiment. If you know how the game works you can beat this game in a few minutes, the whole game is figuring out how everything works and how things are connected. That may not be for everyone as it does require patience and perhaps noting down or screenshotting some things you should remember. Whenever I hear someone call a game 'the best' or anything related to entertainment really it just means it's their favourite. You can't compare every game with eachother because they are often radically different. There are loads of games I will never play even if they are free, simply because I know I won't enjoy them. I can still acknowledge they are doing what they do really well despite that. The best thing to do is to just realize its not for you and move on. The more games you play the more you can figure out exactly which games you'll likely enjoy and which you will not.

I didn't dislike BotW, part of it is that I only played a little since I don't own a switch - and it wasn't quite good enough to buy one just for that. I just got the feeling that you didn't get that much uniqueness when exploring - kinda like Skyrim or something where there's a lot of stuff to explore but not enough motivation for me. Same about exploring in Shadow of the Colossus (though it was still great overall). Pathologic has always been tempting, but haven't tried it.

Oh yeah, in fact although this game is personally the best to me, I won't claim it's generically the best, and these are very much different. It's a bit of a niche game - if you don't enjoy exploring it'll do nothing for you, as opposed to something with a little bit of everything like Witcher 3 or AC Odyssey or Skyrim that most people are going to enjoy at least somewhat.

That confusion would come from the assumption that the people speaking are making any attempt at all to be accurate. This is about justifying why the speaker is better than anyone who likes the game.
