Lemme guess...you plugged in the controller, didn't work properly, tried the keyboard, and here you are?

Unplug the controller and restart the game. I think I had to reinstall when I had this problem but I fixed it and went on to love this amazing game.

This does sound like a controller issue, I had the same until I unplugged mine as I wanted to play M+KB anyway,

There are a few things in the support forum to try, sadly there are a lot of different issues with controllers here

no controller, still had that issue, had to visit settings and tell the game I dont have one.

Funnily enough, I just jumped into the game to go look at something for another post and whaddaya know, I hit shift to launch but the thrusters are nerfed to 50% and it won't lift off!

...no, somehow my controller options got forced to a 360 controller! I don't even own one!! I've played this game since last year on WASD!!!

First time this has ever happened. Really weird!

I'm not sure about keyboards but I have a fix that worked for me with controllers

"To fix this I right clicked on the game in my Steam Library List and when to Properties, in Properties I went to Controller. (Make sure your game is not launched) In the controller menu there is little underlined text in the writing at the top it say "Controller General Settings". Click on this, it will open up a new Steam tab with a list of different controller supports. Check the box for the controller you are using, ie. I am using an Xbox 360 controller so I checked the "Xbox configuration Support" box. You should be able to exit this menu then launch your game and it will work."
