I landed on the Sun Station... for a second.
And then I got fried, seared and burnt.

I spent 3 hours perfecting my approach vector and timing the intercept window with my craft. I eventually got the velocity right and landed on the platform but it just sent me flying into the star even though my relative speed was close to 0.
I just started the game and the Sun went supernova in the first 30 minutes. So I figured that maybe there's some tech on the platform that'll slow or prevent that from happening, I suspect some black hole quantum time shenanigans to be the cause since, well, that's not the timelines that celestial bodies operate on.

At first I thought the difficulty to execute a landing maneuver was tied to the massive reward of extra time to explore the rest of the system, but I'm starting to feel like I'm not supposed to land on the installation because I can't even target the damn thing.

Anyway, I just wanted to know if that's the way to do it. A simple Yes or No will do, please don't spoil this game for me, it's too rare of a breed.

I was debating if I should ask this question before I continue, but I can't drop this feeling that I'm playing this game wrong.
I only managed to explore the home planet and land on the moon before the system went to hell, so am I supposed to explore as much as I can before the star pops or am I supposed to fux the star before I explore the other objects?

hmm, trying to keep an answer to a minimum.
landing your ship on the sun station is an achievement.
you can finish the game without getting that achievement.

to answer the second half of explore or... do something to the star??
i recommend looking at the computer in your ship :D

The answer to all of these questions is: keep exploring, everything is detailed in game but if you find no answers where you're headbutting, it's time to headbutt elsewhere!

The Sun Station has no landing pad, landing on it the hard way is an advanced challenge for an achievement but in normal play you absolutely wouldn't be expected to pull it off!

To the final question.. Time seems to be looping for you: even if you die you just wake back up at the campfire, with full memory! So.. no matter what's happening, you've got infinite time to figure out why you have infinite time, and what you need to do with it

Thanks guys!

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to land there? I keep getting thrown off I "landed" 5 times already.

Landing as in gently touching down on top of it and the ship remaining there for more than a second or two - probably not! Jamming it in the broken bridge section might work though

The achievement pops when you can put your feet down inside the station

Yeah but I keep getting thrown around in the cockpit from all the acceleration. By the time I reach the hatch I'm already thrown off station.

I tried jamming into the gravity strips but they never bite...

Edit: I did it. Thanks for the tip.

Nice! Yeah the gravity is rough, most people use the eject button or practice a kind of backflip over their seat where you unbuckle and step backwards looking down to quickly leap out of the door

I didn't even know there was an eject button lol

I saw that damn station before I knew what it was and was hell bent on getting to it.
You can leave the ship there by getting it stuck on the bridge. Can't say it was easy, but it was sure a lot of fun.

Yeah same here. I also thought the Interloper impacting the star had something to do with it so I managed to dunk it into Giant Deeps. Ironically I think I should've started in Giant Deeps, the first ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ planet I saw I figured I'd leave for "later".
