Low budget like Outer Wilds but with more realistic graphics. Strong theme and atmosphere.
It's on sale at the moment.
That looks cool but unfortunately I don't get paid til the sale is over lol
Eh, I played it on Game Pass and it was okay. It's a linear story instead of exploration.
I really must say: Subnautica
Subnautica and Outer Wilds are so incredibly similar. Both games are incredible. The exploration of an unknown world, how the story is told. You're missing out on a great game.
Subnautica's (and subsequently Breathedge's) breath mechanic turns me off the same way OW's time loop does. It forces me to stop what I'm doing and go back to the start, which is a very tedious way of padding the length of the game. At least Outer Wilds does something creative with their "go back to the start" mechanic.
For Subnautica the breath mechanic starts being a bit less relevant after a bit when you can get the Seamoth - but there's also a bunch of resource gathering that can get a bit repetitive too.
The Sexy Brutale is a beautiful puzzle game where you have to save guests from murder in a mansion. A mansion murder mystery!
Kindergarten 1 and 2 are much less nice looking but quite hilarious where tiny children are also getting murdered. Side-splitting!!
I saw someone mention the Myst series as I was scrolling. No time loop but awesome first person puzzle adventure games that started the genre. Riven is my favorite but you'd be hard pressed to find a way to play it without Dos Box. However, RealMyst is a Steam game that came out in 2016 I think that is full 3D control with modernized graphics. Check it out!
Buy it on GOG and it comes configured to run through ScummVM quite well. You can probably do that to the steam version yourself somehow too.
Also worth noting that there's another new 3d Myst as of this year

With VR support even!
Back in 2018 Cyan rereleased the entire Myst series on Steam, updated to operate on modern machines with MacOS and Windows 10. No more having to jump through hoops to play them!

Myst was a big deal for its day, definitely a classic. Having said that, Riven is a masterclass in environmental world building and seamless puzzle integration.
I also really enjoy Myst 3 & 4. Exile(3) features an outstanding antagonist with an interesting story. Revelations(4) has a notable problem with overacting, however the introduction of journal voiceovers, in game camera note taking, and one of my favorite ages makes it stand out from its predecessors.
Note that End of Ages(5) is actually a sequel to Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, which itself is far removed from the connected story arc of the first 4 titles, taking place many many years later as a different protagonist.
When you say Exile(3), Revelations(4) etc, are those chapters in Myst 3 or 4, or other games? I haven't played any of the Myst games (well I guess I started on one ages ago, but it kinda fizzled out).
@ OP
Another suggestion. I don't have this game (yet?), so don't know much about it.

My bad, I should have specified. Those are the subtitles of the 3rd and 4th games. Here’s the full list:
Myst
Riven: Sequel to Myst
Myst III: Exile
Myst IV: Revelations
Uru: Complete Chronicles(includes “Uru: Ages Beyond Myst”, and both expansions “To D’ni” and “The Path of the Shell”)
Myst V: End of Ages
The first 4 titles are direct sequels featuring the same protagonist. Uru takes place much later with End of Ages being mostly a sequel to Uru.
