There's a bug that prevents people from rebinding their keys.

Hi ya all!

I noticed it yesterday when I opened the game for the first time, and I looked around on the forums to see if anyone else had the problem, but now after having slept and coming back, I see that I'm not the only one with this problem.

Clearly, searching for "rebind" in the discussions makes all of these come up, so I thought to just make a general thread to be pinned or to get everyone's attention or something.

Ediit: I read something about someone not being able to use a gamepad AND the mouse at the same time here on the discussions, so I am trying to just change the keybinds with just my keyboard. Or at least, using either my mouse or my keyboard at a time. Not at the same time. I'll update with how that goes.

Update: nope. It still resets when you restart the game.

Symptoms:
I can't *click* to start the rebinding process (the bar turning orange)

The bindings reset when I exit the game and come back.

Sometimes, the game just removes the old binding and doesn't let you click on anything in the game so you have to alt+f4 out to be able to do anything.

I can't rebind my keys, either. But worse than this, my game seems to think I'm always pressing 'Space'. I can't jump, and when I have the suit on there are always jetpack particles around my feet. I also constantly burn fuel. I only discovered the rebinding issue when I tried to switch the jump control to some other key, hoping that would solve my problem.

Have you found any solutions yet? I'm facing the exact same issue.

Also, the "Save & Leave Menu" button only says "Leave Menu" after rebinding a key - indeed nothing is saved... Reinstalling the game did not solve the problem either.

I found that while I can rebind keys, when I quit and reload the game the keys are back at their previous bindings. Using an 8bitdo pro 2 with the Switch Pro button prompts in Outer Wilds.

The game does reset its settings which is annoying.

Also, if you set your Thruster Up button to Space, the ability to jump on foot bugs out.

I'm new to the game and this had killed my experience so far, having to rebind all the keys every time because I use arrows is a pain in the ass. Is this a recent bug? Is there any hope it will be fixed?

I have three problems:
- When rebinding, click/doubleclick don't start a rebind, you have to use the enter key
- Rebinding WASD doesn't affect conversation controls, ship log map mode controls, or some other in-game interfaces.
- Bindings aren't saved when restarting the game

I found to rebind the keys you have to click both mouse 1 and mouse 2 at the same time. Problem is though, the keybinds reset to default every time i reload the game. I wonder if anyone has found a fix for this.
