Giant's Deep
I don't think I can do it. I hate water levels, ever since I was a kid. They wrench my stomach right out of my chest. I have a deep seated fear of deep water, and it doesn't get much deeper than the entire planet. Combined with the tempestous weather that seems hellbent on hurling you into the water unprepared. I just went there the first time and I don't think I can go back, Jesus. Water levels, why does it always have to be water levels?

---SMALL SPOILERS---

My first experience with Giant's Deep:

I went to Brittle Rock as my first planet, and oh boy I was not prepared for the black hole. Anyway, after some failed jumps, I actually ended up falling into said black hole. I ended up out in space without my ship. This was the scariest thing so far.....

Then I decided to drift into space, towards the nearest planet I could see..... Giant's Deep.

I broke into the planet's atmosphere and fell into the water. (NOTE: I had no idea what to expect as it was my first time playing. AND I DIDN'T HAVE MY SHIP!!). I was thrown around the ocean, surrounded by storms. I was terribly close to the huge one!

I don't normally having a fear of the ocean or deep water, but I can say that I felt completely, and actually irl terrified when I looked down into the water. Black sphere, giant jellyfish things, and all of this with the knowledge that I would never get off the planet with the gravity at 2x.

So yeah, I get what you are saying.

Giants deep and bramble have rattle my nerves since alpha (2013). They've only cemented my fear and disdain for these places. Your hesitance is not misplaced.

It's one of the best experiences I had in gaming, but I guess it's not for everyone. The constant feel of threat and anxiety from all sides is awesome.

Well, in this case it's pretty manageable. Almost everything you need is above the water. There are no active threats, above or below, I guess aside from the tornadoes, which don't even deal damage and you get used to them pretty fast. Your suit and ship thrusters are not affected by the water or wind, so you can mess around as much as you want.

The only problem you could run into if you mis-jump or underestimate the gravity, fall off the island and drift away. The islands move along the currents, and pretty fast, so if you leave their frame of reference you can end up in the water without the ship and no way to recover. In that case, just restart the loop and practice truster jumping a bit on the planet to get a better feel for it.

This game is not for a faint of heart, it tests many fears. That feelin when you hear (without even seing) star going supernova and knowing your doom, you don't quickly get used to that. And Bramble, yes. Bramble..

Giants deep was the first planet i went to, I launched a probe and it saw some weird bacteria kinda stuff before going blank and i was understandably concerned, i eased my way into the atmosphere and past the clouds and i landed on an island without getting buggered up by the cyclones. I was translating ruins and all of a sudden my screen started shaking, next thing i know i wake up.

This game gives me terror and dread I've only felt since I first played Subnautica, glad I didn't skip on this game.

Giants Deep is paradoxically the easiest planet. The wildlife is harmless and there are few time-sensitive events. It doesn't fall apart like Brittle Hollow, it doesn't fill up like Ember Twin, it isn't barely accessible like the Interloper and the Sun Station, and it sure as ♥♥♥♥ isn't the heart-attack that is Dark Bramble.

Your only real worry is getting launched into space and not adjusting to the gravity shift.

I felt nothing from any of it. It was all just mystifying and incomprehensible.

Hey, if it helps you think this way:
-There is no dangerous wildlife outside or inside.
- The controls inside the water are the same and feel the same as in space.
-The deeper you go, the calmer everything will be.
-There are no leviathans like in Subnautica.
-Bramble is the one that has the fishes.

I also had this. I hate deep water in video games. You just got to go for it.

So sorry to answer years after you put this comment out, but this was exactly my experience too. First time out there, fell into the blackhole, got spitten out, managed to make it back to my ship actually, and then crashed on Giant's Deep. I couldn't breathe irl anymore, I kept pausing and unpausing not knowing what to do. I was this close to saying No to the entire game and uninstall. I ended up taking out my headphones and closing my eyes until the <spoiler> first loop happened </spoiler> and focused on trying my hands at other planets afterwards. But I'm still afraid of going back. I know I have to, but just thinking about it is making me feel queasy.

I'm happy to see i'm not the only one who felt almost terrified about that planet. It's the first I checked (after going straight into the sun, thinking autopilot would avoid it). Water levels are my nemesis in any game and this world felt both "well crafted" and terrifying. I think I'll check other places and come back to this one later on...

You're lucky in that you only really have to go under the water like once or twice

Try not to think of it as water but as heavy space. Sinking into Giant's Deep isn't any scarier than drifting through the endless cold void of space wondering where your ship went.
