the game doesn't have a 'save' and it doesn't need one. every time you pick up a new piece of information, the game saves. gotta go do something? GO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DO IT. pause the game, kill yourself in game, quit the game, whatever alt + f4 and shut your computer down, doesn't matter, the game will RETAIN what youve learned
keep playing instead of jumping to conclusions you dont know the answer to
Maybe I don't mind it so much because I grew up playing games on the NES and got used to dying at parts over and over and having to make my way back there? I mean, just think about Super Mario Bros. Hell, I never STOPPED playing those old games and still play them today.
Personally, I think the way it's done in this game is pretty merciful, and I actually like how immersed I can get in the game, how I feel more like I'm actually exploring a place and experimenting to figure stuff out, rather than feeling like I'm very much playing a game. Kind of like how I preferred how the first Pikmin felt like you really were stranded on a world that didn't care about you at all, and it was just up to you to figure out how to get your ship parts and make it off, while I don't think the sequels captured that feeling as well.
You were very close to the end of the prologue, when you play again you can ignore everything in the village except for getting the codes and seeing the statue - they taught you plenty about mechanics but nothing you need to learn a second time. Think of it like a tutorial.
The moon you may want to revisit so that your log records it, up to you.
Once you see something very similar to the statue experience, you've completed the prologue and autosaving will start.
