I've honestly went further with just a normal generalized run using a Boomerang and trying to stack critical.
Interesting. No, true damage isn't affected by power or criticals - it just adds damage on top of your existing damage.
True damage isn't the only way to build strong DPS, it's just one of my favorite ways because it stays consistent throughout the game without a lot of maintenance. With a lot of power or critical chance/damage, you'll do more damage via the usual methods than with a straight true damage build. True damage really only comes into its own in the desert and during boss fights, because enemies with high defense can negate much of your regular damage.
Another thing that makes true damage useful is the bullet splitter - while it can actually make your damage worse with a regular damage build, a true damage build usually becomes 2-3x stronger with one because TD applies to every hit with its full value.
In short: true damage lets you focus on evasion, HP and defenses rather than stacking power and critical chance, while still doing decent damage. It really becomes OP with a bullet splitter or against the late bosses.
I don't think I've found the regular minigun yet, so my guess is that its weapon damage plus the bonus from your power were outperforming the 4 additional true damage you got from switching to the Uzi/Taser combo, at least for now.
PS The swords name is Red Dragon Killer just found it this run (mythic pot ftw)
Also, thanks for the sword name. I'll change it in the guide.
I think I find the platemail warrior and the original adventurer the easiest to use, but thematically I like playing as Alice.
