I think what's happening is that desert tiles get some kind of crazy high weighing when dig spots are spawned. So the dig spots act normally until you unlock even a single desert tile, and then they all start appearing there. You might be able to circumvent it by paving over the desert with roads or something, but it'd make more sense just to fix it. It wasn't always like this and was probably just a typo made being one of the patches.
I wonder if I should start a new save and focus on unlocking snow/fire/graveyard biomes without unlocking desert biome and see if the dig spots spawn then unlock desert and see if the dig spots stop spawning after desert unlock. If it does then it points to desert being the issue.
I did create a new classic save on my switch (forager version 4.1.3 if it matters).
I bought Greenland islands in a 1 island radius around spawn (got the treehouse and wizard island and the fairy fountain and the big turnips and the rainbow island and the island with the 4 pillars that go from 1-4 and the tiny island with just a big chest on it) then worked my way west to the graveyard biome.
Got one with the gems tower puzzle. Right away there was 2 dig sites. I dig them and kept returning later to dig them and collect the nightshade flowers. In total I think I got 6 dig sites from that graveyard island. Then I worked my way south and got a fire biome island with the engineer and factory. There was one dig site right away. I kept coming back to collect the rocks and the dig sites and flowers. I think I got a total of 8 dig sites from the fire biome.
Then I worked my way north to get a snow island. I got the one with the iced over chest. Right away there was one dig site. I dug it. Then heres what’s interesting. Both the snow biome and the graveyard biome stopped getting dig sites. But the Greenland biome and the fire biome kept getting dig sites at this point I prob have collected 30 dig sites from the Greenland biome and like 15 dig sites from the fire biome and they’re still spawning. Grave yard and snow biome doesn’t get dig sites anymore.
I haven’t worked my way east to get a desert biome island yet. This was an interesting play though lacking the beetle item needed to upgrade my pick so I was still at slime pickaxe. There was another upgrade item that also needed the beetle item maybe it the big backpack?
i also put a quarry down on a different island so not sure if that stopped the dig spots from spawning or it was the 3 desert islands i opened on the same day.
is my only hope for filling the museum, starting a new save and doing as u guys did above ^^ and not open anything to the East until the end??
