Tree Saplings not growing. cant destroy them them.

I planted some tree saplings and it grew fine. I planted a second batch and the dirt turned to grass and they stopped growing and i cant get rid of them to make room for new crops. Any idea on how i can remove them or get them to grow? Currently i have a fallen star near by the tree farm. Dose that slow down growth?

By the time i got bombs most of the trees grew. I think it had to do with the resource cap that preventing the trees from growing as after harvesting other resources they started to grow. but it took like an hour.
