Using spirit orbs is inconvenient

How are you meant to realistically get stronger after 500 orbs or so when it takes longer to use orbs than to acquire them, is there any way to use them faster or more of them?
I really don't want to have to leave my game running with an auto clicker just so I don't have to spend an hour + using my orbs to get stronger
