Suddenly have no cows or torchbugs?

I have like 12 islands unlocked. I'm trying to build a skull pickaxe and it requires bottled torchbugs. I had plenty of them but suddenly I only have beetles, fairies and butterflies. No more torchbugs are spawning (or cows).

Is there something I can do?

It appears only a certain number of each type of spawn is allowed? I caught as many fairies and beetles as I could and the next night torch bugs spawned. /shrug

There can only be a certain amount of critters on the map at a time, so you should go and bottle any critters you see and torchbugs should start spawning.
