That means you'll have to have unlocked a lot of pretty expensive lands to get it, right? But leather is an early-game resource. That doesn't help at all until it's late enough in the game you probably won't be short on leather anyway.
Even moreso since Beta 8 apparently upped the prices on crafting almost everything, right?
Honestly, it seems the spawning of animals is just off. First there is a quite lot of them and then all of the sudden they all disappear for no apparent reason.
I don't know if all animal type mobs are tied together somehow in game. There are a lot more beetles now since the animals disappeared.
I came a bit further in the game because I could buy some leather. Without that, I would still be stuck.
I found something to sell for a good price, made some money and got the first islands that I need for crafting the purple material. I also got the amulets now, those help a lot with collecting. So soon I can make a scroll.
Furthermore, one of the new biomes had some animals that gave some leather.
I still think leather is hard to come by, but I notice that being free to choose my skills without really knowing what I get plays a role as well. Now I know about the amulets, I will chose that sooner next play through.
