Did you come up with this idea by reading a certain youtube comment...even with the rules of no bridges but Landfills okay?
I wouldn't class anything you do as a bug either. It's just a different path you can take, one of the great things about this game.
Not spoiling the solution, but I will say you need to go into 3 different perk trees to get access to the items you need to progress.
Ps. Not only have I done it now (and tweaked my rules as doing so), I done it in Beta 7, it used to be a lot easier then you could dig up a certain thing meaning you wouldn't have to do the new perk chain of events. I've uploaded a few pics.

Let's do this.
The very first problem you will face is your energy. You will be doing a lot of stuff by yourself. This means you need food. Fishing traps will do the trick. I suggest you build them in the north, east or west. You WANT lighthouses and they will cover up your area in the south. Berry bushes and other land based sources of food aren't really an option. You will need most of the space for buildings.
Until you can afford droids you should get mining rods. They are probably one of the most overpowered items in the game. And they will help you keep your island clean and preserve energy
Let's get to the most difficult part of the challenge: Leather. Why? Well some of you might think the whole challenge isn't much of a challenge at all. After all you can buy almost every item in the market. But here is the problem... you need leather to build a market.
Leather needs cotton and hides. Hides come from animals. None of these spawn on the first island naturally.
Cotton is the easy part. There is a farming skill which will spawn cotton among other things.
Hides are way more tricky. First of you need shrines and a bit of luck. Shrines give you the option to cast one of two buffs from a pool of different buffs. What you are looking for is the Scholar buff. And here you are looking for the Wizard scroll. It will turn all resources (rocks, trees etc) into animals. To make things easier combine it with one of the the resource creating scrolls. And voila... we have leather. Once you have a market things will get a lot easier.
Enemies don't spawn on the first island. Plants like pepper don't even spawn in the entire first biome. Like with many other resources market is the answer. You will get all of the upgrade resources in there.
Getting to the market is hard enough. But without money it is mostly useless. Buy the premium version of this post and get the top ten tips how to become rich right now!
Nah. Just kidding. Here is what you need to do. Build some lighthouses. They improve the amount of resources you get in their area. (Doesn't affect crafted items though). Upgrading the amulet does the same.
Sell everything you don't need to upgrade your spade and your pickaxe. In the first half of your game you will be mostly selling things like sand, ores, wood, coal! and fish. There is a skill which allows you to find coal whenever you harvest ores. This should give you enough money to get some slime and other early upgrade resources.
But to get insane amounts of money you will need gems. I am not sure what triggers gem drops during digging but here is how it will work 100%. Make sure there are no buildings in the area around your lighthouses. Get the shovel to max level and trigger the Excavator buff from the shrine. Now dig up all of those digging spots and enjoy the hundreds of gems.
Get the merchant buff from the shrine and sell the gems. Do this a few times and you won't need money ever again.
Probably the most important tip to know is: Shrines and markets get always a new inventory/ effect when you build them. Once you have enough money/ resources you can use this to your advantage. Simply destroy the building and rebuild it. Saves you insane amounts of time.
The Builder shrine buff will allow to do this at half cost. There are some skills which will reduce the building costs even further. The Dexterous shrine buff will allow you to attack faster. Keep in mind that the Architecture skill from the economy tree will increase the amount of hp the buildings have. Which means it takes longer to destroy them.
The Industrious shrine buff will allow you to produce things like royal steel faster. So does the Builder scroll. Not sure if they stack. But that's an additional source of speed up if they don't.
Save up items to sell until you get the Merchant buff.
Getting mining rods is probably the best choice in any game. Get Industry, Sewing, Textiles, Craftsmanship and Automation in the Industry tree. After that get Jewelry skill for the amulet.
You will need most of the overall skills . And the situation you are in will lead you the way which one to chose next. Best thing is to open the wiki and take a good look at the available skills. One problem I had is that the wiki wasn't up to date. So for example the Architecture skill didn't show the extra slots for the vault. But you will get a general idea of where to go next.
As for skill points. Spirit Orbs from the market let you level up instantly.
To get xp you can build furnaces and tear them down during the early game. Later on you will have access to Miner and Sage scrolls.
h1] What items to look for in the market[/h1]
Hands down: Demon horns. This was the most annoying part of the entire challenge. You need a metric ****ton of them and they rarely show up in the market.
Also get some droids if you see them. Among other things they will take care of the fishing traps for you. I think they are around 30k - 50k a piece. So don't expect to get them early.
Higher tier upgrade items like electronics or fiberglass are time savers too. But at least you can make those yourself if you want to.
If you can easily afford it buy leather and bricks for market rebuilds.
That's about it at the moment. Hope this helps!
You also miss the first step. You can't build shrines on one island without one other skill. So its ?>Shrines>Markets.
Bombs remain the best way to make money, seeking everything else for 1g a time is nothing.
Nope. Haven't seen any youtube comments on that. It's great to see other people had the same idea though. Especially during the beta I didn't watch many youtube videos at all. Didn't want to spoil the skills for me.
I'd love to see someone speedrun this challenge though. My attempt was anything but optimal and I had to learn some lessons the hard/ boring way.
As for the idea. I was pretty far into the game when I discovered what the droids do. And I was like: Hmm... what would it feel like if I started the game with an army of droids. And well. If you do the challenge you get exactly that for the rest of the map.
The bridges just look ugly and not using them adds to the challenge.
Also high five for going the difficult way too!. Also feel free to post your solution/ ideas. Just make a spoiler warning at the top of your post or something.
The problem with demon horns is that you need several hundreds of them. And you get only like 15 if they show up in the market at all. If you don't recycle markets this takes forever to get.
You are right about shrines > markets. However, getting leather is more tricky than getting crystals and royal steel. If people have trouble getting the shrine in the first place I might add something to my post. If you know how to get gems everything else is rather straight forward.
Bombs sound really interesting! Haven't consider that. You will need some slime (which is also an upgrade resource). But 250g is a lot of money. Especially if you buff it even further with the shrine. Might be even better than gems if you manage to get a steady supply of slime.
After reading your first post I decided to add another optional rule. Using as few skills as possible might make things even more interesting.
What are things you would want me to include or change to make this challenge more fun?
Obviously, in the official mode, the Buy Lands button would be gone from the menu!
Good, I ended up restarting once because I accidentally clicked buy land instead of build then clicked a bit of land trying to click out....D:
I was thinking maybe access to the museum might be a good add to it, if there was someway to get in without getting the extra land, it would give you a good goal. Then I remembered theres loads of biome specific relics, so if you did do something like that then in this specific mode make all relics random drops from the single biome?
In all honesty though I don't think you need to do too much. As I said I done this in Beta 7 last year. While I'm sure you've changed the drops for leather for digging, so I had to work out a new way to get it so I could progress, I could. It's a testiment to how robust your game is. I'm relieved you like the challenge and wouldn't do as some devs might and patch it out, more ways to play the better.
To OP, tbh I'm not sure the few skills as possible really does anything, Its a challenge where making a Beeline for Crystals>Hide>Markets only benefits you and as far as I can see there is no other choice. Robotic shovel would be one, but you need leather to get there so its a no go. You can't get crystals in the market to get the hides either so that doesn't work. In a way it makes me wonder because this path is so set (any perks you get later really are much over nothing), maybe it would be cool to jumble the tree if possible, So you have to rely more on what you can access for now to get buy.
As for bombs. Theres some things you can do to make a profit on buying them from market and selling them, those things will have you selling them for nearly 2k a pop. Slime pops up so often and in the hundreds at market its well worth buying (as for upgrades I'm not sure you even need 100 to get all the upgrades). As noted in the linked picture above. I have 1Million, the majority of that was made through bombs, nothing else seemed to come close to make those figures.

All accessories One Land. Didn't go for the obliterator in the end, while I had 100 great skulls ready, getting the 100 electronics and fibreglass would have just been a lot more of the same.
In fact I do have some smaller suggestions.
Difficulty settings
The general idea is to stick as close as possible to the original game while providing a bigger/ different challenge.
There could be a realistic mode which uses the same "rules" as the main game. An easy mode which reduces the grind you have to do. And an insane mode for the ultimate challenge. Having to build the Obliterator would fit in the last category.
Maybe make this even customizable. And let people decide on their own which rules they use.
Time counter
This mode has a lot of potential for speedruns. Even in this thread alone we had already the discussion about the best way to make money. There are several other factors that lead to different paths to complete the challenge. And having a timer is a good objective way to see which route is the "best". And it adds to replayability.
Space restriction
Duh. That's what this challenge is about. Obviously buying new islands is out of question. But the amount of land tiles available is also interesting. So for example: easy mode could have two rows more than the standard scope of an island. And the insane mode would not contain bridges.
If you feel real evil while making the changes you could even add a "flood mechanic" for the insane mode. From time to time you could lose some of the outer island tiles. This would include buildings on top of those tiles. The building materials would not be returned and the building costs would not be lowered.
This would add to the pressure and might force different strategies. After all you would have to put more thought into where to build.
Museum access
Not having the museum was the only thing I missed. It fits so well in this challenge. How about you enter the museum through the button you would usually use to buy land? This wouldn't reduce the amount of space you have on your island and still grant access to the museum.
Artifacts might be a problem as already mentioned by Sam. Not sure if you can get all of them through the slot machine. If not I'd rather had that part of the museum removed or replaced with other items you can get for the realistic mode.
For the other settings you could simply change where they can be found (digging, fishing, slot machine, market, spells, potions, shrine buffs, animal drops etc.)
Grind reduction (optional)
These suggestions are not for the realistic mode.
The Colonist shrine buff has no effect. There is no point in keeping it in. Even skill upgraded shrines have a rather long cooldown. And shrine recycling isn't much of an option either due to the exploding costs. So getting a useless buff option is pretty annoying.
Same goes for the demon horns. Takes forever to get them.
And finally the Architecture skill. You most likely need the inventory buff for the vaults. But the HP increase for buildings makes market recycling more grindy.
Coconut tree
Can't have a deserted island without a coconut tree, now can we? ;)
if i wanna do the wizard scroll i need plants/flower/i can not get in this 1 island?
Any help please :(
So looking at this I'm fairly sure the minimum skills would be 12. But I have an issue with that, you'd not have access to most of the accessories. To me that would be part of the completetion so I really don't think a "limited skill run" would benefit much. Maybe if in a seperate mode all tool upgrades where unlocked from word go, hell even make all Relics craftable to really make it an "all on one island challenge".
But yeah I think a random shuffling of the perk layout would be more interesting, making you rely on your forager Knowledge and what will let you get by for now, no guarantee the next perk will get you where you want to go but just which one will help you along the way.
>Keep track of the time people need to solve all tasks and display it once they are finished
A seperate set of feats (maybe with different rewards? Items you can't usually get on an island) would be cool, so you can still "complete" it too.
Also even if we agreed that it is kinda "necessary" for a fast run. In which order would you get that skill.
Maybe my wording isn't the best one. What I mean mostly is to not get every single skill available. Instead to make an informed choice and stick to it.
The random skill thing sounds very interesting. Might get you stuck for a long time. Might give you an ultra powerful skill right at the start. I like it.
I'm pretty late in my island run, but I just went up ~20 levels (from around 40 to around 60) by selling a stack of sand. Capitalism can be incredibly powerful under the right circumstances.
I just don't know how well that would work out going for it earlier.
In my case, it was a stack of about 2 million sand, with the market buff from a shrine, a greed potion, and most wallets. Lots of lighthouses are needed to do it at that scale, of course.
Still... it might be useful relatively early on if you can find an easy source of lots of things.
If it works early enough, levelling up becomes trivial, and "how many skills" becomes a moot point.
Quarry for steel and crystals (for shrine)
Shrine for animal scroll for leather (market/upgrades)
Lighthouses+dig+SellforXP skill for instant level 65
Not much different than a regular speedrun (less than 3 hrs depending on your luck with scroll if you don't resell shrines). I did it with bridges but you can make landfill faster than you can place it anyway
