Unable to acquire Crystal Cave boss key?

It seems like my game is either bugged from trying to swap between targetable crystal/ice whatever under the key, vs the key itself, but either way I can't pick the sucker up, and I've tried every item in the game in that room =.=

Can someone either confirm that this is bugged, or explain this section to me like I'm 6?

Yep. I've got every item in the game currently except for boss kill rewards. Fire just goes right through it without affecting.

You have to melt the ice around the key first before you can pick it up.

you should freeze firepits, so they ll be like lense for laser
