Is it possible to dig up land?

I had oil rigs down and they got removed when I bought the land next to them, now I have no spot to put one :c

Once you get a Factory, there's an item called an Obliterator. Supposedly it destroys anything. It won't kill npc's though, and it won't destroy the towers that have no use anymore, and sometimes it doesn't even work on a single tile of land.

The island which is, I think, just on the left of your starting island is very small, with some water around it. I managed to place some oil rigs there, with no impact on the nearby islands which I purchased too.
