Honestly have no idea how im supposed to grind Archeology items
The rarity of them means I haven't seen that many at all, i was using the excavation shrine thing but now that's doubled in price and I can't build the shrine anymore. How am I supposed to get most of these items in such large amounts?.

Lighthouses, shrine buffs (for digging spots as well as double resources), luck potions.

Helps to have the skills which raise buff duration (Spellbind & Summoning) as well as the one which gives you a bonus to finding rare items when digging (Prospecting).

I have every skill in the game, I can't build shrines because it costs over 2k royal steel now among the other stuff. All I have left to do are these remaining staff upgrades so I'm just walking in circles around the land endlessly hoping my fishing traps or dig spots have them.

Did you destroy all your shrines...?

Maybe you should have stopped doing that when you noticed how expensive they were getting?

Even without shrine buffs, though, lighthouses & luck potions should help.

Make some space for extra lighthouses with the obliterator.

I don't know if artifacts can drop from regular digging or if they need dig spots; dig spots certainly help, but I'm not sure if it's a requirement or not.

The shrines shouldn't be the only way to effectively grind archeology things anyway. They're the only thing in the game you can't effectively gain at an okay rate. Even a machine that digs dirt and has a small chance to pop up the items would be better.

I certainly agree that an auto digger of some sort is necessary. Though I want it for sand to make glass in the mid game.

I didn't have any problems with the artifacts though. I'd plop down a light house and 30 or so fishing traps, and then move that setup to whatever biome I needed... made quick work of the aquatic half. And then I'd go to an intersection of 4 islands of whatever biome I needed, place one shrine on the intersecting corners of each and a power plant in between. That made easy work of the rest when the dig spot power rolled around. Since it populates dig spots across all open tiles of the island it's on. I also made sure to have relatively clear islands. Took me no time at all with just the 4 shrines and one power plant.

Of course, by that time, I had no need or use for the staffs.

Interestingly, I popped a luck potion once, and got no archaeology fish from my traps for the whole duration of it. But after it faded, I got tons on my next few harvests. It really seemed like the luck potion was preventing me from getting the drops I wanted.

Wait... power plants speed up the shrine countdown?

This is one of those cases where I was 100% sure before you asked, now I'm only 99% sure. But it certainly seemed that way to me. You can also speed them up with the lighting staff right? Because I'm pretty sure anything sped up by that staff is affected by the power plant as well.

I'll hop in a double check the power plant shrine thing real quick.

EDIT: My super shoddy test says yes they do. I moved one of my shrines away from any power plants, and it was noticeably slower than the shrines I left around a power plant. I'd say the plant made them twice as fast at the least.

EDIT The Second: So the timer on shrines seems to update at a consistent rate, using that, the shrine away from the power plants would change by 1 second every update of the timer. The shrines around the power plant were changing by 2 seconds every update of the timer. So with the skills that bring the cool down to... what? 20 minutes? The power plant brings it down to 10 minutes effectively, so it seems.
